Dell 750 server with 15 SSD disks and 8 NVMe disks

Initially, we had a Dell 750 server with 15 SSD disks and 8 NVMe disks. Upon the first start, the NVMe slots in the Dell R750 showed NVMe physical disks in the IDRAC. Additionally, the storage overview displayed both the SSD and NVMe disks on the dynamic picture. However, after some manipulations, we can now only see the SSD disks and the NVMe disk write is not accessible. How can we return the Dell 750 to its initial state so that we can see all disks in the storage overview?

I followed this instructions but it didn't solve the issue:

1. Reset the system: If the above steps do not work, you can try resetting the system to its default settings. To do this, turn off the server and unplug it from the power source. Remove all of the disks and wait for a few minutes before plugging the server back in. Insert the disks back into their respective bays and turn on the server. This should reset the system to its initial state and allow you to see all disks in the storage overview.

2. Reset iDRAC to its initial state

Hi, additionally Praveen's post please also check below steps:

  1. Check if the NVMe drives are properly installed in the server. Make sure that the drives are securely connected to the server’s backplane and that the backplane is properly connected to the server’s motherboard.
  2. Update the server’s firmware and drivers.
  3. If none of the above steps work, you can try resetting the server to its default settings. To do this, turn off the server and unplug it from the power source. Remove all of the disks and wait for a few minutes before plugging the server back in. Insert the disks back into their respective bays and turn on the server. This should reset the system to its initial state and allow you to see all disks in the storage overview.

Could you check this below setting? reference link https://dell.to/3FNZUGG

NVMe Settings

This option sets the NVMe drive mode. If the system contains NVMe drives that you want to configure in a RAID array, you must set both this field and the Embedded SATA field on the SATA settings menu to RAID Mode. You may also need to change the Boot Mode setting to UEFI.

To view the NVMe Settings screen, power on the system, press F2, and click System Setup Main Menu > System BIOS > NVMe Settings.

Table 1. NVMe Settings details
OPTION DESCRIPTION
NVMe mode Enables or disables the boot mode. The option is set to Non-RAID mode by default.
BIOS NVMe driver Sets the drive type to boot the NVMe driver. The available options are Dell Qualified Drives and All Drives. This option is set to Dell Qualified Drives by default.

is there any data in your disk or raid volumes?  raid on boss only in raid 1, the disks clear.  No raid.

I think this happened after I enabled raid for nvme and compiled raid 1 on it

can you ping me your service tag(private) to help you further?

Rest the BIOS to default and keep the settings as same before the issue.

Do you have any other same-model server if yes can you check the settings it seems this is something related to the settings.

thanks for sharing the Details:-

Your system is in warranty with a 4-Hour ProSupport Mission Critical, Suggest you Open a ticket with dell.

Check this as well:-

1. Power off the Server.

2. Reseat the card and cables.

3. Power on the Server.

4. If the issue is the same then this is something related to settings.

dell will assist you Quickly on this or dispatch a FE onsite to fix it.

Note:- Better to check all the settings as per the doc

Hello, we need to know of the configuration. You see 16th slot is actually for 17th disk since it starts from “0”, not “1” Can you tell us what you purchased from the link below?

I found that the problem is in the NVME disks. I was built through s150 raid 1 . After I inserted a new disk, I saw it in the system. Now I do not know how to return the disk to factory settings.
