Can't find reconfigure option on PERC H730 (RAID 5)
I have 4 x 1TB disk installed on PERC H730, and it was configured as RAID 5 with the OS (virtual disk 1) and data (virtual disk 2) on same physical drives. I want to add 2 more HDDs into data that have the same specs with the existing ones to that array without losing any data. I saw many posts that it can be done with "reconfigure" option from OSMA. but when I tried, I can't find that.
Is it possible to add the new HDDs to Data Virtual Disk only? If I remove virtual disk 2 (data) and create a new VD, can 2 new HDDs be selected when creating it? Or do I need to delete all VDs to add new HDDs?
Want to expand D:\Here is current configuration

Hello TeePandu,
Unfortunately there is not an undo option. You cannot use this method to remove disks.
If you have another drive you can do the RAID level migration again RAID0 > RAID5
It may be you need to back up the System VD, Delete the virtual disk, Configure the VD's you want and install/restore from backup.

Reconfiguration of virtual disk can not be done if there are multiple virtual disk on same physical disk groups. You can refer below link for details.
https://www.dell.com/support/manuals/en-us/poweredge-rc-h730/perc9ugpublication/reconfigure-virtual-disks?guid=guid-aad79692-439f-4743-bfbe-1f054957cd49&lang=en-us
You need to take a backup of Data Virtual disk, delete the data virtual disk. After this you can expand the existing OS virtual disk then create one more virtual disk for Data and copy the backed up data.

Hi @TeePandu,
Totally agree with Shine here, and also please make sure you have the same disk type as the other disks in the VD.

Hi Shine,
Thanks for the feedback. Before I delete the Data Virtual disk, I tried to create a new virtual disk and I cannot select RAID-5. Will I be able to select it when there is only one VD (after data VD deletion)? Do you have a link for step-by-step instructions for expanding HDDs with multiple VD on same physical disks group? I have not done this before. I have backed up the data and inserted the new 2 HDDs with same disk type as current one.
Thanks!

You are correct. When you delete the Data VD you should be able to do the online capacity expansion (OCE).
I would also encourage you to have a valid backup of the OS VD.
I'm attaching a video tutorial and Knowledge Base article.
You will want to keep you beginning and ending RAID level as 5 and you can add both disk at the same time.

Hi Charles,
I have removed the data virtual disk and adding the new HDDs, however, I forgot to change the RAID to RAID 5. Can I change the RAID after the construction is done? I use BIOS config instead of OMSA. Does it matter?
Thanks!

I hope the ending will be RAID5. The system virtual disk is on RAID5 since the beginning of installation. The total of physical disks are 6 now after adding 2 more.
After the construction is done and the RAID is 0, can I create a new virtual disk with RAID 5?
Thanks!

It will be RAID 5 until unless you specifically mentioned different RAID level during reconfiguration.

Hello TeePandu,
Using the BIOS method is just fine.
The process cannot be stopped.
Do you know what the ending RAID level is going to be?
Check the link Shine added to see of your ending raid level can be migrate to a RAID5. You will need to add another drive.

I
I think I messed it up. The result turned to RAID0. Is it possible to revert the action (removing the new 2 HDDs) and restart the process with RAID5? How do I remove the 2 new disks if possible and re add it?
