R740 GPUs

I have an R740 LFF with riser configuration 1B+2A+3A. I want to install a GPU that won't cause the fan minimum to increase due to being a third party PCIe card. Without the cards I've tried, fan minimum is 7% PWM. With the GPU installed the minimum is 29%. Inlet air temp is the same and PCI airflow is disabled. Without PCI airflow enabled it's even higher.

I'm trying to find a list of GPUs that won't be treated as third party and hopefully wouldn't increase fan speed unnecessarily. I've found the list of certified GPUs, including P100, P4000, K80, K40, M10, and Grid M60. That excludes other GPUs like the P400, Quadro P5000/6000, T4, etc that are used in other Dell servers.

They may not be certified for the R740, but would they be treated as third party cards or not?

Where can I find the GPUs that are not considered third party for the R740? Or is the certified list all of the non-third party GPUs?

Thanks!

Hi,

If a GPU is not on the certified list provided by Dell for the R740, it is generally considered a third-party GPU. The certified list from Dell is effectively the list of non-third-party GPUs.

Stick to the GPUs on the certified list to avoid the increase in fan speed. For other GPUs not listed, they are likely to be treated as third-party and cause increased fan speeds unless Dell releases a firmware update that includes them.

You can check this PowerEdge Server GPU Matrix

and GPU options for R740

Hope that helps!

Thanks for the help. I'll get a certified GPU.
