PowerEdge R720XD DIMM slot configuration
I've been using 8 modules of 16GB RDIMM in the recommended configuration of A1, A2, A3, A4 for one processor and B1, B2, B3, B4 for the other. Recently, the A3 slot stopped working. How can I keep using 8 modules without the A3 slot?

I would start with verifying the issue is with the slot and not the dimm. Would you power down and then swap the dimm from A3 with the dimm from B3, and then power back up and see if the error remains on A3 or moves to B3. If the error moved I would suggest replacing the dimm, if it doesn't then I would replace the board the slot is on. As far as population, if the slot is dead then there wouldn't be a way to use 8 dimms without using A3, as seen on page 46 here. I would think the best you would do is A1, A2, and B1, B2.
