DSU fails to update DPU_Firmware_V788P_LN64_4.0.2.12722_GA_01.BIN on PowerEdge R7625, R6615
Hello,
We've detected an issue with the Dell System Update (DSU) while updating the firmware DPU_Firmware_V788P_LN64_4.0.2.12722_GA_01.BIN
on our PowerEdge R7625 and R6615. DSU attempts to install the firmware, but the process fails with the following error:
Fetching DPU_Firmware_V788P_LN64_4.0.2.12722_GA_01 ...Installing DPU_Firmware_V788P_LN64_4.0.2.12722_GA_01DPU_Firmware_V788P_LN64_4.0.2.12722_GA_01.BIN is not applicable to the systemDPU_Firmware_V788P_LN64_4.0.2.12722_GA_01.BIN could not be installed
It appears to be attempting an update for the NVIDIA BlueField-2 DPU, which is not included in our system configuration. Below is an excerpt from the debug_inv.log
indicating a potential issue:
...[2024-08-22T10:35:11] : DeviceInventoryExecutor.cpp: 160: WARNING: vDeviceInfo is empty, No Marvell Controller devices found. Possibility for an ERROR.[2024-08-22T10:35:11] : DeviceInventoryExecutor.cpp: 163: CDeviceInventoryExecutor::OutputResult - End...

Could you please investigate the DPU_Firmware_V788P_LN64_4.0.2.12722_GA_01.BIN
package issue from your end?
What steps should we take to resolve this firmware update issue?

Rudniev.vv,
There appears to be an issue with that catalog, where it was putting that package in as a CPLD update for nodes incorrectly, which is causing issues. Now I do know that the issue should be fixed in the latest catalog release.
Would you do me a favor and clarify how you are leveraging the DSU catalogs?
Let me know.

@DELL-Chris H
Hello, Chris.
Thank you for your response.
We are using a Linux live image with DSU installed to periodically update our servers. Recently, DSU started attempting to install
DPU_Firmware_V788P_LN64_4.0.2.12722_GA_01.BIN
on the specified server models:Please let me know if I have understood your instructions correctly or if further clarification is needed.

Hi,
There isn't much need to be done at your end. The online repository has some issue with the update catalog and should be resolved after the catalog have been updated by engineering.
To confirm, you did not use custom catalog created by yourself using DRM (Dell Repository Manager) right?

@DELL-Joey C
Yes, that’s correct. We did not use DRM when we encountered the DSU error.

Hi,
Thanks for the info. The catalog should be updated soon, as this is an error in the catalog which does not relate to your server.

Hi @DELL-Joey C,
Could you please let me know if you are aware and the situation has been resolved also for the chassis R750?
As we are still experiencing the issue for that chassis.

Hi,
Last week, I have updated the engineer about your case. I'm unsure if the catalog has been updated in the Linux repo server. I did have some cases similar to yours, but it's a different method of updates. It involved R650 and R750 too. Thanks for informing us about it.

Dear Dell Support,
Unfortunately, I cannot confirm that the issue is resolved. Today, the problem occurred on approximately 30 servers:
Could you please investigate this further?

It is showing that the DSU update was fixed in the newest catalog for methods that use the online catalog on https://dell.to/4dGkyY2. I am currently testing to see if the bootable ISO will attempt the updates via DSU, in order to see if I can replicate the issue, or if it is something that may be specific to the environment or system.

As far as I can see, nothing has changed on our side. When I run dsu --inventory, it seems DSU downloads the current version of the catalog - "invcol_LN64_4WCW0_24_06_00_130_A00" (in the official online Dell repo I see the same version):

I think I'm seeing the same issue here on R660. Openmanage Enterprise is showing an update YETI CPLD - XR11, XR12 from 1.2.6 to 4.0.2.12722 which failed with the error:

Nleva,
We are aware of the issue and are working towards getting it resolved. I don't have specifics on the timeframe, but I think it will be fairly quick.
