DELL PowerEdge Server Drive Bay

I just purchased a DELL T360 (outlet).   The unit supports 4 drives.   The purchase is just an expensive toy.
At some point would it be possible to get an upgrade kit to support 8 drives.

I am planning on using it as an iternal media server/backup storage for photos etc.

I am also going to experiment with kubernetes (RHEL 9) or True NAS.

According to the Installation and Service Manual doc, there is a upgrade BOSS kit available for this system. I wouldnt know the part number, but if the doc says there is one, it shouldnt be too hard to locate via the sales or spare parts teams here at Dell.

Hello, thanks for choosing Dell and welcome to our community. When you want a server to be upgraded, it's never an easy job to source all parts and connect them right. That's why we have kits. Folks here is mostly from tech support for troubleshooting, so this is best addressed by the Sales: designs does not get change, so you can reach out to sales if they have any conversion kits.

Hello, you reached out to the sales to see if a conversion kit is available, and it's a no, I'm afraid there's nothing we can do about it.
Please know that tech support does not engage in system modifications.

Thank you,

One branch of the company says call some else.  You said you had parts kits and the you said you do not have part kits.

I think that the company does not care.

Hi @AustinDiver . Historically, the Dell servers are built with a specific drive bay configuration and cant be changed as the chassis drive bay cages are riveted into the case. Also, the drive backplanes are specific to each drive bay configuration, and then the cables that connect the backplane to the system board are usually different for each drive bay configuration. I have not personally put hands on the T360, but its highly likely that the drive configuration cannot be changed. Once the unit arrives, you will be able to see if indeed the drive cage is still riveted into the case.

@DELL-Rey G

Thank you, I held off delivery(because of work) until tomorrow.
4 drives will be enough anyway.

I will look to see if the BOSS-N1 could be added?   A 1GB redundant flash with boot software, etc and the rest for data would be perfect.   A T560 is too much power cost, etc.
