Boot from USB Memory Drive

Hello.  I am a co-op student with UPS.  I want to be able to boot from a USB pen drive that I have (256MB).  The drive is bootable, but I don't seem to be able to select "Boot from USB" in BIOS on the PowerEdge 2650.  Is there an updated BIOS version that allows boots from USB?  If not, are there plans for one?

Thanks,

Becky Barthlow

Funny.. I tried to do the same thing this morning.  I am trying to boot from USB so I can make a Ghost image of a hard to replicate server.  Could not boot directly from USB, nor could my Ghost USB enabled boot disk "see" the USB controller.  It seems to me that the 2650 does not activate the USB controller until the system is booting into Windows 2000.  Does ANYONE know how to boot these servers from USB?

Hi Becky,

At this time no PowerEdge Server except the PowerEdge 1655MC blade server has the capability to "Boot from USB". I do not know if the capability is planned in an upgrade for other systems.

Yes. I booted my 400SC off a Lexar JumpDrive 128MB.
