Using EMC VNX Unified Storage Replication Consistency Technology in Oracle 11gR2 and ASM Deployments Validation Test Report

Hi All,

I have questions from customer regarding to EMC  Validation Test Report

Using EMC VNX Unified Storage Replication Consistency Technology in Oracle 11gR2 and ASM Deployments Validation Test Report

Part number h8169

- He would like to know in the test matrix for the consistent feature if he turn off the Flashback what the result is going to be (because if he turn it on it will relate to Application).

- If without ASM what is result going to be?

- In the test environment didn't mention about how big of bandwidth, so it effect or any things will happen if the bandwidth below that ....Mbps?

Appreciated you your help.

Hello LittleBill

Please find my answers inlines:

- He would like to know in the test matrix for the consistent feature if he turn off the Flashback what the result is going to be (because if he turn it on it will relate to Application).

This is a good question.  Without Oracle Flashback enabled, EMC storage based replication technologies (Snapview and MirrowView etc.) can also create consistent backup for recovery when not in hot backup mode.  Please refer to the white paper of 'EMC Backup and Recovery for Oracle Database 11g Without Hot Backup using DNFS and ASM' in EMC powerlink.

- If without ASM what is result going to be?

ASM is used to make the disk management simplified and improve disk performance.  It will not affect the functionality of creating Oracle data replication.

- In the test environment didn't mention about how big of bandwidth, so it effect or any things will happen if the bandwidth below that ....Mbps?

In this test environment, it is assumed that the bandwidth is not a issue for the remote data replications.  For the specific environement, if the bandwidth is not sufficient:

1. for MirrowView/S, it will affect reponse time of the production system

2. for MirrowView/A, it will affect RPA of the replication

There are some EMC tools like BCSD etc. can help to work out the necessary bandwidth required for the specific data amount need to be replicated and the RPA accepted.
