【Technical Discussion】 VMware Best Practices for Oracle RAC

Question

On the topic of RAC in vmware, I was interested to know what tools EMC uses for management of their RAC infrastructure on vmware.  Specifically, we struggle with the below and wanted to know how EMC team manages it.

1. Managing affinity rules for RAC db nodes ( we currently manually track cluster nodes to setup rules)
2. Oracle RAC node VM guest disk to datastore to vmdk mapping ( this takes a bit of effort to map out when troubleshooting an issue)
3. Tracking shared disk (vmdk’s between vms) and the advanced shared disk settings ( vmx)

We need Vmware to be more application aware when there are shared disks and clusters in play.
