Optiplex Small Form Factor 7010 Power Supply Upgrade?

I would ideally like to chop the rear half of the PCIe x4 slot off to allow for a RTX 4060 LP to be installed. This, of course, will require a PSU upgrade. The 260W option for this model also does not have a 6+2/8pin PCIe connector, and only adds an additional 4-pin EPS connector.

After some research of trying to find a compatible PSU with a 8-Pin Mobo, 1/2x 4-Pin EPS and a 6+2/8-Pin PCIe, I found that the PSU in the Dell Optiplex XE4 should do the trick, however, I am finding two different Part #s for the 500W Platinum unit. One being C20GG, and the other, DYW3N. Googling leads me to listings for the XE4 MT PSU, not the SFF PSU that is needed.

I'm planning on ringing up Dell tomorrow to see if they can clarify, however, I was wanting to post on here to see if anyone has gotten their hands on a 2023 model 7010 SFF, and had luck with upgrading PSUs.

Thanks!

If your pc has a 260w psu, it might be Optiplex SFF plus 7010

this model comes w 260 or 300w psu

the other model SFF 7010 comes w 180 or 300w psu

Due to the slim size of SFF chassis, you would not be able to install the 500w psu inside case.  That is the downside of SFF.

Dell proprietary 500w psu is wider than the 260/300w psu.  When you put it inside SFF case, it would stand taller than SFF, and you would not be able to put the side panel back on.

you probably already know that the 500w psu fits the tower case.

if the pc were Optiplex tower plus 7010.

300w is the highest power oem psu you can install.  The only way to use a higher power psu is to install it outside case or leave side panel off.

I deployed several 2023 7010 SFF desktops, standard and standard plus as well.

You are correct, based on the pictures I found from the C20GG and DYW3N, they are for the Mini Tower. (The Mini Tower is a better option for sure.) I haven’t found any alternative options to replace the original power supply in the new 7010 SFF however I seen this PSU in the previous Dell SFF desktops, so it might fit the new 7010 with some light modifications:

Also, the original pancake style mini CPU cooler is another problematic part, not sure what CPU are you planning to pair with the RTX 4060 , I feel Like this SFF case is just way  too small and very limited for upgrades. Managing the heat will be super difficult and also closing the top cover :)

@redxps630 Hello, I want to upgrade my psu. I have optiplex tower plus 7010, do you have an Idea where I can buy this 500w psu? or even just the exact name or details so I can ask for it in local pc stores

@redxps630 Hello!

Been reading through lot of your contributions in this forum lately... thank you for that beforehand.

I have an Optiplex 7010 SFF with a 0F3J97 (H180EBS-00) 180W PSU that looks just like the one you posted.

I am looking to install a GPU into it and for that I need a PSU upgrade. I could not find the 300W version PSU you mentioned but reading through a bunch of posts I came into the Optiplex XE2 315W (VX372), which has an 8 Pin connector for the Motherboard (which mine needs) and a 6 Pin connector for the GPU. I was wondering if this would work or what is the part number for the 300w one I mentioned?

Thank you and have a wonderful day good sir!

Optiplex XE2 psu is c/w EOL Optiplex 7020 SFF but not the new Dell 7010 SFF.   the new 2023 small form factor 7010 uses newly designed Dell proprietary 8 pin for motherboard which has a totally different pinout from EOL 7020/XE2 8 pin.

You can upgrade to some extent the psu in SFF to 260/300w but the main limiting factor is physical space of SFF chassis.

Do you have small form factor plus 7010 or small form factor 7010 ?

Dell 8Pin + 4pin 300W Power Supply

D300EBS-00

L300EBS-00

H300EBS-00  V0YN7,J1R8X,3XY3J,MJXT6

Dimensions: 120mm x 62mm x 185mm.

this is wider than the 7010 chassis (92.6 mm)

For example the 500w Dell psu good for 7000/7010 tower are too wide for the SFF case.  If such psu is installed you would need to leave the side panel open.

@DELL-Chris M can you supply the DP/N of 300w psu for OptiPlex Small Form Factor Plus 7010 and 7010?

the 300w psu I found are 120 mm wide too wide for SFF case (92.6 mm).

@redxps630 small form factor 7010, without the plus :) I have 16gb of DDR4.

I was checking the PSU you sent me, but all of those are thic boys. There has to be some PSU that has pins for a GPU for this case, as I am sure they sell some new models with the GPU installed.

Also none of those PSU models that @DELL-Chris M supplied have 6 or 6+2 pins for a GPU :(

Re: they sell some new models with the GPU installed.

yes they do but the oem gpu are AMD Radeon™ RX6300, 2 GB, GDDR6
AMD Radeon™ RX6500, 4 GB, GDDR6

neither needs a 6 or 8 pin gpu

Dell has not designed the SFF to support gpu that requires a 6 or 8 pin PCIe.

@redxps630 That's the saddest of news I've heard today... Maybe it wasn't designed for this, but this beast can pack a punch!!

...I was wondering, if I grab one of those 8 pin PSU like the one I mentioned earlier, could it be possible in theory to modify its PIN layout so I could install a low profile GPU in there?

the new Dell 8 pinout is still not deciphered.  no known adapter exists to my knowledge.

the only practical path forward would be to use the thick Dell psu of 300-500w which do have the 6/8 pin.  you could in theory install the psu outside case if the cable is long enough to reach motherboard sockets, or leave the side panel open.

which low profile gpu do you plan to use in a SFF that requires a 6 pin PCIe?

Of note, the Small Form Factor 7010 mobo does not physically support double slot width gpu in the PCIe x 16 slot which is right next to oem psu.  the x 1 slot has a closed end further frustrating any user attempt to install a dual slot gpu.  This model should have been named SFF 3010 instead of 7010.  but I suppose the 7010 name sells better.
