Optiplex 760 E8600 RAM Upgrade Inquiry
Hi,
I need to upgrade my Optiplex 760 with more RAM, but I'm not sure how much it can support. Specifically, I would like to know the maximum RAM per slot and the total RAM capacity.
Current specifications:
- **Processor:** Intel Core 2 Duo E8600 @ 3.33GHz
- **Motherboard:** Dell 0G214D A00
- **Memory:** 4GB total (2x 2GB DDR2, occupying 2 of the 4 available slots)
- **Motherboard Chipset:** Intel Q45/Q43 Rev.03, Southbridge 82801JD (ICH10D) Rev.02
- **BIOS Version:** A16
- **Operating System:** Microsoft Windows 10 Pro (x64)
Thanks in advance.

You will be able to upgrade to 8GB DDR2 maximum.
Both 667mhz and 800mhz work in this system.
Make sure the sticks you buy are listed as nonECC and SDRAM. Try to match the speeds, if your current sticks are 667mhz buy 667mhz. Or you can buy 8gb, 2x4 sticks @ 800mhz
4GB is a decent amount, you should try to upgrade your system to a C2Q, it'll do you wonders. Your CPU does have a very a good clock rate, it's up to you.
I had a 755, C2Q Q9400 @ 2.66Ghz, 1TB SSD, 256MB ATI RADEON 2400 XT, 8GB DDR2 RAM @800Mhz coming from C2D @ 2.4Ghz, 250GB HDD, iGPU and 4GB DDR2 @667Mhz

max is 8 GB DDR2 (4 x 2 GB DDR2).
max ram per slot is 2 GB.
there are expensive 4GB DDR2 ram but they may not work with 760.

Max is 4 per slot, 16 total.
You'll want to locate a source of decent used RAM for the system -- at "new" prices, that's $160 or so in memory -- or between 6-8 times the total value of the system.

I'm not sure if UDIMM or DIMM makes a difference. Somebody else will have to answer that one.
Top CPU for 760 is core 2 quad Q9650. That's if the MB can take a C2Q. Some couldn't, some could. I'm not sure where the MB part numbers are. What size is your 760?
When searching for RAM, use "Optiplex 760 RAM." "A-Tech" can also be added, like on Amazon. It's a great way to save money on an older machine and comes with a lifetime warranty. I've been using it for years.
SSD is a great way to speed things up. In my previous 755, I had an SSD, Q9650, 8GB RAM (the max for it) and it flew.

It needs to be UDIMM which stands for unbuffered DIMM.
according to motherboard schematic, DDR II 667/800 MHz
