Optiplex 755 corrupted video

The problem in actionThe problem in action

This is my optiplex 755 booting. The image is like that all the time, also into the OS (Windows or Linux) and also in the BIOS.

  • Is not the monitor nor the video cable, because they work fine in another computer.
  • Is unlikely to be the DVI card on the 755 because I have replaced it with another one and the problem persists. It's second hand, so it could have the same problem, but it's unlikely.
  • Is unlikely to be the CPU, because I have replaced it with another one and the problem persists. It's second hand, so it could have the same problem, but it's unlikely.

The connection to the monitor is via DVI.

What could the problem be?

Did you try integrated vga video output of pc (after removing dvi video card)?  Also try clear CMOs by reset jumper on motherboard.

Remove the computer cover.
Reset the current CMOS settings:
Locate the password (PSWD) and CMOS (RTC_RST) jumpers on the system board
Remove the password jumper plug from its pins.

Place the password jumper plug on the RTC_RST pins and wait approximately 5 seconds.

Remove the jumper plug from the RTC_RST pins and place it back on the password pins

Resetting CMOS didn't work.

I didn't try the vga video output of pc because I don't have a cable, but I'll give it a try tomorrow if I can find one.

Meanwhile, any suggestions?

Could be motherboard chipset problem. This is an old model but if you really want to repair it can get a cheap replacement motherboard for $10-15.

Ram or power supply could be the issue.

Take out all ram and test one stick at a time.

If you have video card in the X16 slot remove it and try vga.

755 does not have onboard DVI

not sure what you pr dvi card is.  It could be a dvi adapter card, not a video card. in either case try vga cable first.

The other way to reset CMOS is to replace the size 2032 CMOS battery.  If the battery hasn't been replaced within the last 5 years, try that.  It doesn't do any good to reset CMOS with the same ol' battery if it's bad.

Do that first and then and go along with redxps630 suggestion of trying VGA cable.
