Optiplex 5040 SFF upgrades

Greetings. I have a couple questions about upgrading my 5040 SFF.

First is can the PSU from the MT be used? Does it have the 6 pin pcie GPU connector?

Second, does this board support Xeon? I'm looking at a e3 1275 V5

Thanks everyone.

I think probably 4x8 GB.  user validated is 2x8 GB or 4x4 GB.

yes absolutely.  5040/7040 MT 240w psu is c/w SFF

The Optiplex oem psu for those models do not have the black 6 pin PCIe connector.

if you need a Dell oem psu that has 6 pin GPU PCIe connector that works for 5040 SFF, consider Optiplex XE2 SFF 315w psu which has the 6 pin, also the 8 pin white connector for 5040 motherboard

Xeon in the following list is validated in 7040, so I think will work in 5040 too.

E3 1275 V5 is from the same E3 V5 class so likely will work, although no user evidence so far

Perfect thanks. What are my options for the 6 pin pcie? I have a PSU for a 9010/20 that has one and it doesn't work with my board.

Optiplex 9020 SFF psu do not have the 6 pin PCIe, but it can also use the Optiplex XE2 315w psu.  see my answer above

9010 uses ATX 24/4 pin for motherboard.

@redxps630 Sorry forgot to mention I upgraded the PSU on the 9020 to the fullsize (bigger better equivalent)

9020 MT uses standard ATX form factor psu with Dell proprietary 8 pin white motherboard connector.  it does not have the 6 pin GPU connector, but can use Optiplex XE2 MT 365w psu which has the 6 pin.

All right just a follow up and complete my query, I'm looking for a larger form factor power supply that can be used with the sff board as it will be case swapped. The new case is prepared with standoffs drilled out just an fyi. Just need a larger sized PSU with the connectors I need and will work for the 5040.

any standard ATX psu can do as long as you use a 24 to 8 pin adapter.

or you can use just drop in the Dell XE2 MT 365w psu that has all the pins you need already

@redxps630 I will double check but I believe I already tried to use one of those. Will get a part number when I get home.
