Intel 82579LM Gigabit adapter in Optiplex 7010 (EOL) doesn’t go past 100 Mbps

I have gone to 200 Mbps speed from my ISP (Quantum Fiber) and the integrated Intel 82579LM gigabit network connection won’t read beyond 95 Mbps.  My OS is Windows 10 Pro and in the Device Manager the properties section of the network adapter the link speed is set to auto negotiation.  There is a link speed setting option of 1.0 Gbps, but when I select it the network adapter shuts off.  I tried a separate PCI Express Gigabit NIC with the same results.

How do I get the network adapters to work at 1 Gbps when they have that capacity?

Hooray!!!!  🥳  This Gigabit ethernet problem is SOLVED❗  I suspect that the infamous Windows updates (or something) changed the drivers for the built-in Gigabit adapter for this Optiplex 7010.  I went to the Dell download site and got their OEM drivers, and rolled it back to their OFFICIAL version.  Now everything is working as expected, and I am a VERY happy camper.

first thing first is to replace ethernet cable with a brand new Cat 6 cable.  when LAN speed is capped at 100 the cable is almost always the issue.  even when the current cable looks good and like new to you, try replace it w a brand new cable.

That was one of the first things I did.  Sorry, I should have mentioned that in my post.

@redxps630 Follow-up:  It is NOT the cable.  I just used a USB 3.0 to Gigabit ethernet adapter (j5create, Model: JUE130), and it is getting the speeds I expect.

this is the legacy EOL (end of life) Optiplex 7010 I presume.

@redxps630 Yes, it's an old one, that's for sure.  However it has been working very well for me, and with the embedded ethernet Gigabit adapter working like it's supposed to, it still meets my needs.

I have 7-8 of these 7010 MT.  They are good pc, and relatively newer than Optiplex 700 series BTX that is still used and tinkered by many on this forum.  I regard these as better gaming pc system than later Dell Opti towers although some other ppl would suggest upgrade to more modern Dell.  the 7010 is the last tower to use microATX board and standard ATX 24/4 psu therefore easy to upgrade with minor proprietary front IO.
