How to get wifi

Hey guys, it's been a long time since I used to desktop. I just reformat my 9010 DT to Windows 7 and now I don't have any wifi. I know I need to download the drivers but it doesn't work. What should I do? Should I just buy the wifi usb where I could download its driver but will my PC recognize it? I also have a nvidia 610 installed inside my tower but haven't downloaded the driver yet. I think my desktop with its 250w I could install a 1030 if I ever decided to game. Thanks!

It sounds like you may be having issues getting your Dell Optiplex 9010 Desktop to connect to the internet after reinstalling Windows 7. Here are a few things you can try:

Download the correct wireless network driver for your PC: You can download the correct wireless network driver for your PC from the Dell website. Make sure to select the correct operating system (Windows 7) and the correct model of your PC (Optiplex 9010) when searching for the driver.

Install the driver: Once you have downloaded the driver, double-click on the downloaded file to start the installation process. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation of the driver.

Check the wifi switch: If your PC has a wifi switch, make sure it is turned on.

Check your router: Make sure your router is working properly and that the wifi signal is strong.

Install the Nvidia driver: Once you have connected to the internet, you can download the Nvidia driver for your 610 graphics card from the Nvidia website.

Upgrade your power supply: If you plan to upgrade your graphics card in the future, it is recommended that you upgrade your power supply to at least 300W.

If you continue to have issues with the wifi, you can try using a USB wifi adapter. You can download the drivers from the website of the adapter's manufacturer, and it should work fine on Windows 7.

The thing is I download the network driver but it's for the Ethernet and I tried downloading the wireless but both doesn't work. Yeah I think I'm going to do the USB wifi adapter, I saw the guy on youtube said that's the easiest way. Thank you!

The last WiFi dongle I bought had the driver built in.

I had three usb dongle Wi-Fi, the linksys AE3000 needs manual install of driver for both 7 and 10 which can be downloaded specifically from official site.  The Realtek and TPlink Wi-Fi dongle are plug n play in Windows 10. I have not tried the latter two in Windows 7.

9010 DT Dell oem Wi-Fi may be using a PCIe based mini card as the motherboard does not have mini PCIe slot or M.2 slot.  You need to know the exact Dell mini card model to find the corresponding driver.

Wifi usb dongle is quicker and easier although comparing speed PCIe Wi-Fi card is faster the difference matters to you.

Okay, so I read that the PCIe based is better than the USB adapter, I feel like you might as well pay the PCIe cause the price is relatively the same anyway. I think I will buy the Dell Wireless 1530 PCIe WLAN card. After I install it, the PC will then be able to pick up wireless connection?

So for this I have to buy the Dell RU297 and the 1530 PCIe WLAN card? I've never seen that device before.

If you prefer PCIe cards, look for something better (newer) than the DW1530.  That is very old wireless N card.  At least, get an AC or better yet AX card.  Review these cards and make a choice that fit your usage and budget.

Thank you this! I'm looking at the pci-e cards AC ones, one comes with a heatsink and the other doesn't. Which one should I get?

If it doesn't affect the price, get with the heatsink.  Although, the heatsink is not needed.

I think you should take a step back and evaluate your plan again.  Windows 7 and internet are not a good match because 7 is no longer supported, meaning no security updates.  Do yourself a favor and move to Windows 10.  Then working on updating wifi afterward.

Kaspersky can be sufficient, then you need to make sure the wifi card you gonna get is compatible with Win 7 as some are for Windows 10 only.  If you want to get a combo card of wifi and bluetooth, verify if you have an usb connector on motherboard for connecting bluetooth cable.

I used Windows 11 before going back to Windows 7, I didn't like it at all and Windows 7 is so much faster. I have a Kaspersky - antivirus and firewall, I rarely do windows update.
