How Can I replace Optical Drive with a SSD drive?

I have an Optiplex 3020 desktop computer. It has its original 500G HDD hard drive, which came with the PC. I am running out of space. I would like to add an additional SSD disk. I opened the cover and I wasn't to figure it out. I am not sure how can I add an additional hard drive. I don't mind remove optical drive and replacing it with a 4TB SSD drive. Is it possible to add an additional drive? If yes, can someone guide me beside the SSD what else I need installing the SSD? I am a beginner if someone can mention all the steps for me.

Appreciate your help!

if you have a slim dvd drive you can replace it w this to add a 2.5 ssd

If it has a regular height DVD you can install a 2.5 ssd on top of the existing 3.5 hdd in a 3020 DT.  the DT has a hdd cage to support two drives.  just get a Dell 3.5 to 2.5 adapter.  put your 2.5 ssd in the adapter and install it like a second 3.5 drive

If you have DT you can use this kind of dvd size enclosure

@redxps630

The 3020 came in MT, SFF, and USFF models.  No DT.

Also, DT models only hold one 3.5 HDD as configured from the factory.

Ty brad for correcting my errors.  I guess OP really has SFF then which was referred to as desktop.

They did the same thing with 7020/9020, no DT model.  Some also refer to the MT as a desktop.

Ty brad for remedying my mistakes. I surmise Over powered truly has SFF then which was alluded to as work area.

I know this topic is solved.  But if I may suggest other option for storage expansion.  If your PCIe x1 slot is unused, you can add a low cost PCIe adapter that can hold the newer NVMe solid state drive, a good solution for high speed game drive or frequent load of heavy applications.

Most of all, it does not use up your graphics slot, your optical drive, or your SATA port.

chino is right and if you are good you can inject nvme driver in bios to make pcie ssd bootable too.  note the pcie lane in 3020 is gen 3

@redxps630

If you don't mind me asking, are you or you two sure a 3020 can boot from NVME?

yes I think so if a bios mod is performed.

Install and boot from an NVMe SSD on a Dell OptiPlex 9020, 7020 or 3020

Same response, the xx20 does not boot NVMe from PCIe slots natively.  I did not mentioned OS boot because OP already used SATA boot, just 2 or 3 seconds slower.  But it will be a noticeable performance boost for file transfer and heavy applications loading.
