Dell Optiplex 7010 SFF (early version) with 4 usb ports in a horizontal row in the front bezel

I bought the old Optiplex 7010 some time ago. The inside of the pc is a mess. No brackets are installed and a ssd and hdd are fastened upside down in some self drilled holes.

I want to re-install the brackets for the sdd and hdd but I don't know how they look like.

There is no dvd-drive present. In this desktop I want to install a dvd-drive but it must be a high one ( The hole in the frontbezel is 15 x 4.1cm )

Can someone show me what bracket(s) I need for the ssd and the hdd, and perhaps .

Perhaps an owner of the same SFF pc can send me a picture of the inside of his/her pc and of the brackets used?

Many thanks,

7010 DT supports standard height 5.25 optical drive.  see the teardown video I sent at play time 1:00.

Rufus 3 allows Windows 11 "Extended" installation support (bypasses TPM/Secure Boot/RAM requirements)

So you need a USB2.0 fat32 FLASH DRIVE

sandisk usb2.0 flash-drive skuId=9288807

SAMSUNG 500GB MZ-77E500B ssd

A WINDOWS 11  ISO

RUFUS 3.17

And a machine that has the BARE MINIUMUM requirements to install 11. Not supported does not mean not working. You tell Rufus to make the USB legacy MBR for old models and UEFI for newer models that have secure boot but not TPM.

Personally I would download the ISO and Rufus and buy a few flash drives because microsoft giveth and taketh away.

Download Windows 11 Disk Image (ISO)
This option is for users that want to create a bootable installation media (USB flash drive, DVD) or create a virtual machine (.ISO file) to install Windows 11. This download is a multi-edition ISO which uses your product key to unlock the correct edition.

How low and slow can you go?

You can go all the way back to 2006 OPTIPLEX GX620 with BIOS A11 and Pressler pentium D 915 to 960 with 4 GIGS of DDR2 WITH 3.25 to 3.5 gigs useable.  You will also need a PCI-E GPU lowest cheapest model would be QUADRO K600.  Further you need a samsung 2.5 SSD because HDD is wayy too slow for boot.

QUADRO K600 GPU

Started out with GX620 and upgraded to XPS 400/Dimension 9100 because it has more expansion room and 375w power supply.

Turns out secure boot UEFI and TPM are not required when you use your Rufus magick wand and ENcant Microsoft Mosetup Installis Carborundum.

what you have is actually 7010 DT (desktop) not SFF.Capture.JPG

this video shows you 7010DT tear down where you can see the hdd caddy etc

the hdd caddy is px60024

The 7010 DT was only made to hold one 3.5" HDD.  To hold two 2.5" drives, like an SSD and a 2.5" HDD, or any combination thereof, a dual adapter that fits in the original blue caddy is needed.

If using just 1 SSD:  Orico 3.5" to 2.5" adapter

Thanks for all the info you sent me including the youtube video. I learned a lot. I just installed a dvd-drive and all works well. I now wait for the receipt of the dual bay tray and the dell tray. Many thanks again.

Can I install WIN 11 without having problems afterwards? Must I first install win 10, and update then or must I choose a clean install ( GPT ssd ) The 7010DT already has the new bios.

the pc does not officially meet requirement for Win 11 but you can still install Win 11 using unofficial method bypassing requirement.  you just would not get Win 11 update.  either way of install is fine and I have done both.  clean install from Win 11 dvd I burnt or update from within win 10.  when install from within win10 you have option to keep old data or keep nothing which might be similar to clean install.

I installed Win 11 successfully on optiplex 780 which is older than 7010.  If OP wanted to know how to do it I would be glad to help.  There are still users who prefer win 7 or 8 and hate Win 10 too.

"you can still install Win 11 using unofficial method bypassing requirement."

I'm not sure how it would ne bypassed, but here's a few things I do know.  I can't install Win11 on my 7010.  Might be just as well as Win11 is still missing features Win10 has.  Win10 is supported to 2025.

One user did use a VM to install Win11 on a Dimension and showed screengrabs to prove it.  One might also be able to load Win11 on a PC that meets the requirements, then migrate the drive to desired PC.  Whichever method is used, I believe Win11 skips the checks that way from what I've read.

sorry Brad I know very little about Win 7 ultimate, had only used Win 7 Pro.  but one can get free Ultimate Win 7.  Agree that fresh clean install of Win 7 Pro is quite limited.  otoh I do like the fast booting of Win 7 from hdd with zero update.  It is faster than XP.  it seems security comes with a price of slow loading.

No need to be sorry,  : ) but thanks for reply.  Speaking of security, McAfee isn't compatible Win7.

I was going to use Win7 on a separate drive for my Windows Media Player.  A favorite feature hasn't worked in Win10 since 20H2, not to mention a few other little screw ups that came with 21H1 & updates.  I couldn't get any of my BT drivers to work, or work decent, with Win7.  Win7 does come with a BT driver that didn't work.  What I did end up doing is having a previous HDD, with Win10 build 1903, never to be updated, in a hot swap and it works great.  Just gotta have a little more patience with HDD and loading things.

A fresh load of Win7 Pro SP1 is too raw without the updates.  Some features don't work or don't work right without the updates.

@redxps630

Since you mentioned Win7, I'd like to see if you know something.  What is special about Win7 Ultimate that it's somewhat expensive on eBay and actually selling?  I do know it has Enterprise features.  But does it work without the updates?  I went thru a recent experiment.  In raw/fresh Win7, I couldn't even update Explorer, nor download Edge, though it's supported on Win7 until June.  Other browsers, like Google, couldn't do much.  Ultimate itself is still unsupported.

Windows media player works with win10 all versions including 21H2 and win11 all versions so far.  However its not working out of the box. You have to add features back like directx june 2010 and legacy direct play and Multimedia features . Movie maker and some other things are also removed but can be put back.

You will also want to put back visual C++ 2010 sp1 x86 and install the Unengine Tropics Bechmark to verify that all the pieces are back

There is no WIN8 or WIN10 or WIN11 ultimate.

If they have a WIN7 Ultimate COA then WIN10 PRO  will install without issue using the I don't have a key option then activate online via the COA Key.

All drivers are in the 7010 driver cab.

https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-us/000121578

Win11 will also install fine with 4 gigs or more ram.  Neither 10 nor 11 are supported but they work.
