We verified the file exists on the ftp site and stages ok on a development deployment. Please verify the proxy settings. Please verify when you installed the appliance you used thick provisioning and did not change the amount of RAM the VM uses.  If those are all good you will likely need to call into support and give them your log to see what’s going.  When calling in provide the service tag of a server that has pro support and tell the call directory you need help with VMware and the vCenter plug-in VMware in the advanced virtualization queue. The experts are there.

The appliance tried to download the R710_BIOS....  file from ftp.dell.com and stage it on the appliance, and the part that failed was the download from the dell ftp site to the appliance, where it is staged prior to being downloaded to the server's iDRAC's to be updated.   With only the task manager info, I can't see the reason why the download failed but you may be able to find more information as to why in the troubleshooting log bundle.

Since the catalog file came down successfully, it could be that the download timed out or a device is blocking the download such as a firewall stopping the exe extension. It could also be a temporary problem with the dell ftp site.

If you haven’t already, retry the download. If the problem persists and you don’t suspect a network device blocking you, create a troubleshooting bundle and then look at the spectre_VCenter_app for more detailed errors around that time.

Thank you for your pointers it seems to be our firewall blocking the exe file.

We added a rule that allows the appliance to download exe files and it working now!

Thanks again.
