We do not do anything specific for the vSphere Storage Appliance. We will continue to report the onboard storage devices via each individual host and send SMTP traps when things fail.
This isnt the storage appliance, this is the vcenter server appliance. A linux based vcenter box. I assume the omivv requires a windows vcenter to install to, but I would like to use the vcsa, instead.

Yes the vCenter appliance is supported. It is documented in the user guide.
