Windows server 2008 - Virtualization - OEM - key mis-match

Hello I am trying to virtualize a server - which came with Windows 2008 server - OEM standard edition.

After virtualizing it's prompting for activation.

This machine came with windows 2008 server standard edition installed but the sticker says - window 2008 R2 server standard edition and this key can't be used to activate virtualized server. Would you please suggest what options I can take to get the virtualized server activated?

PS: Would like to preserve the contents of prior non-OS components/programs as part of this virtualization and activation.

Thanks

Hello

This is not a Dell issue. I suggest that you post questions for Microsoft on their forums. You can also search their knowledge base for articles.

Thank you Daniel.

Wondering why this is not a Dell issue. Dell shipped the product with Standard edition of 2008 installed and instead of providing 2008 Keys, they provided 2008 R2 keys ( product sticker on the server box). I have checked with microsoft and they are saying, I should use 2008 standard keys.

I am now stuck on this.

Thanks
