PowerEdge 2970 will not post.

I recently obtained a PowerEdge 2970 from my I.T. Instructor to practice some server skills. I hooked it up according to the manual online and it turned on, (fan got really loud, died down) but nothing will post. I don't see any error codes, and there's no beeping. It came with a disk in it labeled "2008 R2 SP1" so I believe it's supposed to be running Windows server 2008. I've tried booting it without mouse and keyboard, with mouse and keyboard, monitor, no monitor, front ports, back ports, left it on for a good 30 minutes to see if anything would post, nothing. The only thing that I can see that could possibly be a problem, is one of the back raid controllers in the PCI-E slot has a green light, and an orange light (the other one has both green), but since I'm new to servers I don't know what that could mean on a raid controller. Thanks for your time!

Take the server to the Minimum to Post configuration, that is removing everything from the server but the following;

•System board

•Processor in socket 1

•One stick of memory in slot 2

•One power supply

•Control panel and backplane (to turn on system)

•Sideplane

•Both PCI risers; center slot and left slot

Try powering up with everything out, if it Posts then individually add the removed devices back, until the issue reappears. Which will  help identify the part causing issues. If you are able to reinstall everything and it still Posts then it is likely that something was just loose.

If the server still doesn't start under the Min to Post config then verify Processor is firmly seated, as well as power supply. If still nothing then it is likely one of the listed devices left in the server that has failed.

Let me know what you see.
