Drive Failure

So we have a PowerEdge R710 (ST: 7FGTPM1) that has a drive failure.  It has 2 drives in a RAID 1 config so it is still up ad running on the other drive for the time being.  I have an identical R710 unit that I've been cannibalizing for parts to keep this one up and running. I was going to replace the failed drive with one from the spare unit.

My question is do I need to wipe the drive from the spare first before I plug it in or is this truly hot swappable where the RAID controller will do its magic for me?  I guess what I'm trying to ask is if there is a preferred proper procedure for swapping this drive?

The RAID Controller is just a Dell SAS 6/iR Integrated Controller.

Hi,

The RAID controller will take care of it, you do not need to wipe the drive beforehand.

So I replaced the drive in the chassis and the display on the front did turn blue and the error went away.  However, when I go into the OpenManage Server Admin module, the disk shows offline.  I do not an option in OpenManage to bring the disk online.  Is there a particular process for this?

What does it show in the SAS6/ir BIOS? Sometimes you have to switch the drives so that the good drive is 0 and the new drive is 1.
