How Transfer Info from Old Laptop to New One?

[[Am new here, so if this is in the wrong question area, please excuse and refer me]]

Does anyone know how I can transfer info (desktop icon connections, favorites, files, data, folders, etc.) from my old Acer Aspire 5532 laptop with Windows7/IE10 [Wi-Fi] -- and both USB ports broken --  to a new Dell Inspiron 15-3520 laptop with Windows 8/IE10 [Wi-Fi]?  I am by no means very computer-literate, but was able to set up the new Dell so that the internet connection, wireless part & the old email work fine on both laptops.  But I am totally clueless on how to move the above kind of info to the new laptop, especially considering the broken USB ports on the old Acer.  Is it possible for me to handle the task without ruining everything?  I've similar answers, but not with my specs, so I'm scared to death to try without an answer specific to my OSes, versions, etc.   Can anyone guide me through, or must I pay Geek Squad or someone to do it?  Would deeply appreciate any help -- oh, and please use simple instructions!  Thanks so much.//

You should be able to transfer your files and folders without any issues, using a USB flash/thumb drive.

Note. Only data files and folders can be transfered, all programmes and applications must reinstalled from their discs, or downloaded from the publishers website.
