Dell Wireless 1705 802.11b/g/n (2.4Ghz) Connectivity Issues/Windows 8.1

Hi. I've only had my new pc DELL INSPIRION M731R for 3 days and I'm totally frustrated. My pc won't stay online long, when operating in Facebook it keeps dropping out. Out of the 5 "bars" in strength I can only get 1. I have read and read all the issues in the forum on wireless connectivity, and the suggestions. Most identify the 15 inch in 5537. The only thing I could do was to unchecked the "Allow the computer to turn off power". I couldn't do any of the other suggestions because I don't have the options discussed. The options listed on my pc and the settings under Network are: 802.11b Preamble Long and Short (other available choice is Long Only) AdHoc 11n Disabled Network Adapter Not present Receive Buffers 256 Scan Valid Interval 60 Transmit Buffers 512 I have a new Linksys AC1900/EA6900. I'm living in a one floor house, and IF I can get a connection, it says "Limited" and then there is nothing. The troubleshooter says All drivers are up to date. I was upset enough when I realized this computer won't allow me to use the 5Ghz, but I expected to be able to get 5 bars on a brand new computer. Any help you can provide would be DEEPLY APPRECIATED, Thank you.

Turn off Bluetooth... it conflicts with wifi! (Now, if you need to use Bluetooth on this computer, you will have to find another solution.... but this worked for me!)

So what do we do? I really thought I had researched pretty well, but this is frustrating as hell.

Same computer same problems--getting ready to call charter and see if it is their side and throw the computer away--I always get the message something like "page not available" and it was happening both on IE and Firefox (Firefox took a couple hours to finally download because it either wouldn't let me into that website or kicked me out.) I also kept getting this darn BING search bar taking over my address bar---IE has been working good tonight after I disabled every Microsoft add on except for IE. Seems like maybe all of our problems were intentional programming ???? Maybe it is coincidence.

JVOSSCPA,

Try these tweaks....

Start, control panel, device manager. Click on Network and then right click on your network adapter, left click properties, power management. Uncheck the box, allow computer to turn off this device to save power.

Go to the power options, and changed the Wireless Adapter Setting, from Maximum Power Setting to Maximum Performance.

Same problem here on a 2350. I had already set the adapter power management function to not switch off in the adapter settings

The Wireless adapter gives up randomly during usage at least once a day. The problem is not always the same however.

Sometimes the wireless adapter can see local IP addresses but the DNS retrieval is not working causing "limited access to network errors" and sometimes the network is not available at all. To reconnect sometimes just disconnecting and reconnecting the wireless adapters works but sometimes the computer has to be rebooted. It is very frustrating and impacts the families usage of the computer greatly.

Hello Rick,

I have a Dell Inspiron 15, got it in 2013. At first I thought it was malware around. But I have been using my computer for two years with no antivirus or malware at all and never had an issue bigger than having the Ask tool bar when downloading Java. So I freaked out thinking that some malware could be causing me not to be able to use the browsers. Tried everything even refreshing my computer.

I followed your advice and so far I have been surfing for an hour. Let's see how it goes.

Hope this works.

Cheers

Itzel

Just to give you an update. Minutes after I was not able to use internet at all... I was even thinking about replacing my wireless adapter. But as I tried with an usb wireless adapter (excuse my lack of vocabulary) and the problem came back again, internet for a few minutes and then I needed to restart. I was very worried. So I searched on Youtube and I found that I needed to do this

This is the video, sorry is in spanish but I couldn't find it in english. Hope following the arrows you can understand.

Hope it helps to fix your issues.

Cheers!!

ItzelM,

I have been using these Recommended Wireless Router Settings for a long time and never had problems with connecting any wireless device.

Strange that I always have my settings for automatic...

I had my settings for automatic, in two years I never had problems till now. So Idk why it was giving me such a hard time or why the previous video intructions  fixed my conectivity issues but everything is ok now.

A change of the internal hard disk resolves it. The problem is with the hard disk. If you cannot fix it, try another hard disk instead of destroying or abandoning the system
