Beware of SmartByte Continued...
Product was running CPU 45 - 65% on new Inspiron I5 system with SSD. Performance was pathetic.
89 Negative comments from slow networking with this awful software, no reply from Dell whatsoever and the forum is mysteriously locked after 9 pages of complaints. I've run across dozens of other complaints to uninstall Smartbyte as a solution in this community, and others that don't have a clue what could be wrong., I run across Killer Network nic cards and associated fake-ware and nothing but poor performance and problems.
Many stated the software keeps reinstalling itself. My solution was to just stop the service and set to disabled, and uninstall Dell Support Assist, Driver Update, Dell Backup and other bloatware. Also noticed this scheduled task for SmartByte Telemetry in Task Scheduler that apparently phones home with only God and Dell know what information it is collecting and sending all the whilst making my new i5 run like a 1999 Celeron. Delete, Delete Delete.

It is nice to see that Rivet responded, but I have just taken delivery of a Dell Inspiron laptop, direct from manufacturer, onto work WIFI and had an issue with slow speed.
Knowing my network is fine, I checked the drivers on the laptop, latest installed... and happened to come across this thread .. uninstalled Smartbyte and no issue! So I would assume that a laptop built in the last 3 weeks would have the most up to date software, being as it shipped with Windows 10 V1909
So in response to Rivet, why do you cap speeds in this modern day world of high speed internet? haev you actually worked with Dell in testing?
Why does Dell still ship with this poorly designed software?
More so, why does this install upon activation of a WIFI network WITHOUT permission or activate a prompt for installing software? Surely this is a bypass of the UAC and means that any virus could also bypass?
Dell, this has also led me to delete all the Dell software that comes along with the device so that at no stage in the future, can any "Preinstalled" software install WITHOUT my express permission.
This has reduced my trust in Dell......

Dell Inspiron 17 5000series with Windows 10
Same here. Slow Wifi since months. Tried everything.
Stumbled upon this thread and first tried stopping the SmartByte service. That stopped my Wifi completely.
At wits end decided to make the provider come and check. If the issue was due to them the visit was for free. If not I would have to pay.
They found no issues and with their computer the Wifi was an incredible 300Mbps (mine around 20)
Finaly today Uninstalled Smartbyte. Wifi up to 100Mbps.
This is my 5th Dell and it will be my last!!!!

Was getting 12mbps with an Intel AX200 network wifi/bluetooth card. Uninstalled Smartbyte and am getting 532mbps down and 455mbps up. On a 940/880 fiber FiOS connection, downstairs, with router upstairs in a closet. Amazing difference.

Through our validation, testing, and co-working with users who reach out to us directly, we have not seen issues on the latest versions of SmartByte. To help understand why some users are still seeing this issue out of the box, it would be helpful to get the following information.
If you prefer not to post this information in this thread, you can create a support ticket with us.

In my post from Feb 1rst I said that Wifi was up to 100Mbps after uninstalling Smartbyte.
It went down to 20 later.
I then tried returning to the old Qualcom driver (12.0.0.709) - which I found not through the help of Dell Cares support but in another forum.
Nothing bad happened to my laptop but it did not solve the issue.
So I decided to buy a Wifi USB stick which was a lot cheaper than contact paying Dell support.
With this 25€ stick speeds went up to 220Mbps.
But then someone told me she was having the same issue on an HP laptop also on Windows 1903.
So I googled slow wifi Windows 1903 and found this article:https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/very-slow-wifi-after-recent-windows-1903-update/65e7b0ad-58a0-4bc8-854d-431644123d1d
I decided to try these solutions and removed my Wifi USB.
First checked my Wifi speed again. It is still over 200Mbps.
In the Microsoft article they describe ways to reset your network.
I think installing the USB stick did this on my PC.
If someone else has slow wifi issues maybe look at the Microsoft article.

@outdell Thank you for your feedback. I would like to know if you tried to update SmartByte, and if you did what issues you ran into. If you didn't update it, would you be willing to install the latest version and confirm if your issue that you were experiencing still exist? We have not seen issues with the latest versions of SmartByte, and if you could confirm as stated in my previous post it would help greatly. If you wouldn't mind we would need the following:

Thanks @RivetNetworks - I'd be happy to test with a version you recommend, although I wasn't sure if this is necessary software.
Can you share the benefit of SmartByte, so I can make an informed decision on if this user needs it?
Thanks, Robert

@outdell No problem, and thank you for responding. The version that I linked is the most recent version. This link here will explain to you what SmartByte does, how it benefits users, and their needs.
In short, this application provides automatic network prioritization for your devices applications, streams and services that use your network connection. It protects applications that are latency sensitive so they have no connection issues.

Thank you again for your time!
