SFP Module Compatibility on Powerconnect 2848
I've never used SFP Modules before so before I end up ordering things that won't work I figured it's better to get some questions answered first.
1. Apparently there are SFP and SFP+ modules, are both compatible with the powerconnect 2848?
2. What's the max speed supported by the SFP ports? (no use in buying a faster module if it won't be utilized)
3. Can I connect my storage server straight to the switch using the fiber connection (similar to how I'd connect a PC to the gigabit port), or is this port only meant to bridge switches?
And finally, does it has to be a dell branded SFP module, or are these universal (though maybe not officially supported)? (For example, would this work? DS-SFP-FC8G-SW)
I'd really appreciate the help :)

Hi,
The 2848 only supports SFP. SFP is 1Gb, SFP+ is 10Gb, QSFP+ is 40Gb. You can connect your storage server directly with the SFP connection. We have only tested Dell branded, but some third party ones may work and you would have to check with those vendors.

Hi,
Thanks for your reply.
Then what about this SFP module? (model: FTLF8524P2BNL-MD) It's 4Gb/s but still SFP (not SFP+). Would this work? or are the powerconnect SFP ports limited to 1Gb/s?
Thanks.

That is a fibre channel SFP module, so it won’t work at all. The switch can only do 1Gb
