Firmware update N2024 switches (not stacked)

I have been though the upgrade notes on these switches and I have some questions.

Since these are in essence "new" switches to me, I am starting from a hard reset and both switches need a firmware update.

There are two versions of firmware update; the older is recommended and the newer is optional.  Do you have an opinion on which is preferable?
  • Dell EMC Networking N2000-ON Series, Firmware Version 6.6.3.17
  • Dell EMC Networking N2000 Series Firmware Version 6.7.1.22
The current switch software is:(for each switch)
  • Firmware Version 6.1.0.6 CPLD Version 13
  • Firmware Version 6.3.3.9 CPLD Version 17
I believe both require a boot loader update after the firmware upgrade.
In searching through documents
I found references to the following
Dell Footlocker (is this important?)
Dell SupportAssist (do I need to configure this)
Dell hiveagent  (Do I care with a hardware reset switch)
I don't know what hiveagent
I do not anticipate using it.

One other thing is the boot code and CPLD I will be updating part of the stk file meaning no additional download?

Based on your switch you would want to use the 6.7.1.22 version, the other is for the ON version of the N2000 series switch. 
 
As far as SupportAssist, it is enabled by default on the switch, as seen on page 1769 here.
 
With the hiveagent question, I believe you may be correct in leaving it out.

Here's a small feedback from the networking support that I spoke with. If you need more details and support help, I may need to suggest contacting the support for more advanced instructions. 

 

Firmware Version 6.7.1.22 and 6.3.3.9 CPLD Version 17 is preferred.

 

Do you mean Bootlocker instead of Footlocker?, anyway it is not required. It is optional to set up SupportAssist. Hiveagent is a wirelessAP, which you might not need it as it's for Aerohive. Bootcode and CPLD are in 1 single file.

I understand all of your answer except for this part:

My best interpretation is as follows choose either 6.3.3.9  CPLD Version 17

                                                                           or 6.7.1.22 CPLD Version 20  (or 17)?

The following is part of the 6.7.1.22 firmware update instructions:

After switch power-cycle, verify the CPLD version is updated to the latest version 20 by running the command “show version"

Are there any instructions for configuring SupportAssist?

Since I am not using hiveagent should this line come out of my config file?

application install hiveagent start-on-boot

I will probably update to 6.7.1.22 why not start with the newest since I am starting fresh.

Hi, I'm currently experiencing an issue with the Dell N2024 switch. The ports are unable to come up. I'm considering upgrading the firmware since it's currently running on version 6.3.2.3. Can I upgrade the firmware directly to the latest version, or do I need to upgrade to an intermediate version before upgrading to the latest version? Any Boot Code or CPLD need run together?
