Vertical lines on Dell W2709 Monitor

On starting up my monitor I have a sizeable block of blanked-out lines about two inches in from the side. After a while the lines go away - they used to completely disappear, but now there are always two left (pink and purple). The problem is almost identical to the one described in this earlier forum post:

Now, my monitor has been out of warranty for a few months; how do I organise a repair, and how much is it likely to cost? I can't seem to find any form of customer support contact on Dell's website for broken hardware except for this forum.

 

I have of course done all the obvious; reset to factory settings, run the panel refresh, used a different input source, tried a different type of input cable and so on. I have had no luck.

Hi petercharters,

Since you have mentioned that there are two vertical lines on the monitor, please try performing a monitor built in self-test. Power the monitor off, disconnect all of the monitor cables (except the power cable) from the computer, power the monitor back on. The monitor might need a replacement if the lines still appear.

However, if the lines are not seen during the Monitor built in self-test, please perform Auto Adjust and also adjust the Phase and Pixel Clock via the OSD. Please refer to the link below for instructions on how to use the OSD:

Please also check for bent or broken pins in the video cable connector.

NOTE: When using 'DVI-D', the Pixel Clock and Phase adjustments are not available.

Dell does not have repair services for monitors. Since the monitor is Out of Warranty please contact any local repair technician to check if the monitor can be fixed.
