U4320Q, 4K 60Hz, USB 3.0 question

Hello,

I am a little confused by the exact resolution support in combination with the USB hub speed of the Dell UltraSharp U4320Q?

I found several hints that in some cases the Monitor supports only 4K 60Hz via USB-C with USB 2.0 Speed on the Hub (USB-C Prioritization = High Resolution). In the current version of the handbook I'm not able to find any hint about this behavior. It only mentions the possibility to switch modes.

There is an older handbook version (Rev. A00) with the explanation -> for full USB speed with 4K 60Hz you will need HBR3 (High Bit Rate 3) support on your device.

I want to user the U4320Q with my MacBook Air M1 and my ThinkPad L14 Gen 2 (Intel Tiger Lake). As far as I know both systems should support HBR3. But I am not totally sure about this (especially the M1). I would be a real bummer if 60 Hz is only possible with USB 2.0 speed. Can anybody confirm that the monitor would be able to work with 4K 60Hz AND USB-C High Data Speed?

Thank you and best regards,

Matthias

The chart here released on January 26, 2023 Using a Dell UltraSharp USB-C Monitor with a Mac shows that the U4320Q USB Type-C/DisplayPort will only do 4K 3840x2160 60Hz if you choose the slower USB 2.0.

Hello Chris,

Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately, the chart from the FAQ is wrong or at least not specific enough.

I purchased the U4320Q to test this by myself, and as is assumed – if your device supports HBR3 the monitor can display 4K/60Hz with USB 3.1.

Both of my devices – MacBook Air M1 and Lenovo L14 Gen2 (intel) – support HBR3 and can use the full features of the U4320Q.

For sure there are Macs with USB-C which will not support this. But the simple statement "all Macs only support USB2.0 with 60Hz" is wrong.
