U4025QW, port usage question

Why do I have to use the USB-C port before my U4025QW monitor? Will it even recognize there is a connection? I just want to use the DisplayPort on the monitor and hook up to my computer.

It's because you use a thunderbolt hub monitor.  A thunderbolt cable connecting to the monitor USB-C port is necessary to carry video, data, and power delivery.

If you don't care about using other ports, just use a DisplayPort connection to the computer for your video display.

Chino is correct!

The U4025QW was advertised by Dell as, "Dell UltraSharp 40 Curved Thunderbolt Hub Monitor - U4025QW".

The sales page shows all that you may also use HDMI or DP for video from the computer.

The online U4025QW User's Guide details how to access the downstream ports USB-A and USB-C.
