U2723QE, macOS support for Ethernet port?

Hi,

Looking at the download options for the U2723QE and macOS. There is nothing mentioned about support for the built-in wired Ethernet port? So before buying the U2723QE, does anyone have this setup with a MacBook Pro connected via USB-C working using the wired Ethernet port in the monitor to connect to the network?

Thanks

Thanks Chris. That prompted me to go look at RealTek support page. They do deliver macOS drivers for some of their Ethernet controllers. That may work I thought especially if it's one of those NICs mentioned that is actually installed in the monitor.

Good question!

The U2723QE drivers page offers a macOS driver. But that is not the Realtek USB GBE Ethernet Controller driver. The online U2723QX/U2723QE/U3223QE User's Guide is not "definitive" about macOS and Ethernet. It states =

Install the Realtek USB GBE Ethernet Controller driver available for your system. This is available for download at https://www.dell.com/support under the “Driver and download” section.

This LAN port is 1000Base-T IEEE 802.3az compliant, supporting Mac Address (Printed on model label).

Functionality may vary with Non Dell PC’s.

Page 89 states = Ensure that the RealTek Gigabit Ethernet Controller is installed in the Windows Device Manager.

All that to say it appears that if the MacBook can get a macOS RealTek Gigabit Ethernet Controller, it might work.

Hopefully other macOS users will post their thoughts.

Yes, it works.  You might have to install the Ethernet driver.  I don't recall what that is, but you can search the forum for it.  It worked for me on a MacBook M1 Pro without any changes.

Just purchased the U2723QE to go with my new M1 Macbook Pro running Monterey.  The USB Networking across the USB-C port didn't work out of the box.

1) Cable Setup. RJ45 connected from a switch into the monitor. The included USB-C cable connected from the Macbook Pro into the power+data+video USB-C port.

2) Make sure your Mac can see the USB LAN device -> Go to System Report-> USB-> USB 3.1 Bus. It should have an entry under there for 'USB 10/100/1000 LAN'. If you click on this - it will show a Realtek product up to 5 Gb/s.

3) Add the new interface. Go to System Preferences -> Network. Unlock if required. Press the '+' button just above the lock. Under Interface - select in the drop down list 'USB 10/100/1000 LAN'. Under Service Name - type in a name for the interface - I just typed 'Wired'. Press 'Create'. Now press 'Apply' in the bottom right hand corner. The interface will take a few seconds to connect to the network and become active.

4) Set the interface priority. I want the Macbook to use this wired interface if available before using the wireless interface. Next to the '+' and '-' buttons on the bottom left there's an ellipse button. Press this and select 'Set Service Order'. Drag the 'Wired' connection we just created to the top of the list and press 'OK'.

So no Realtek drivers needed - just some manual configuration to add the new network interface, and a useful priority.

Hi Guys, if you are having problems with this monitor in M2 or ARM under macOS. You should try to download the drivers here.

All the best.

@JuanFMH unfortunately this didnt helped me.

I have Macbook Pro 14 M2 connected with same monitor and having exactly the same problem.
As you can see from the screenshot, USB speed are limited to 480Mbp/s. I did tried instaling this drivers
realtek and also this ones dell, however that didn't change anything, I still have same speed of 480 Mbp/s. Does anyone have a proper solution?

My monitor firmware is updated to the last version.

Thank you very much

@borbea you have to select High-data speed in the monitor setting under display -> Usb-c prioritization.

Then disconnect the monitor and reconnect, it should ask to allow a new USB device now.

(I don't know if the realtek drivers are necessary, I installed them, but I discovered the usb-c thing later)

@beastor this is true. Just once you do this just disconnect from wifi, and then you will have ethernet speed.
