U2717D HDMI signal not detected

My U2717D is less than 1 week old. I have connected it with my early 2012 MacBook Pro 15 via DisplayPort using the cable that came with the monitor. This works beautifully whether monitor's Input Source is set to Auto or manual select.

Then I wanted to connect my other laptops using HDMI. Cable is an existing working HDMI cable that I connect laptops to my TV. The laptops are HP Pavilion X2 13 (Win 10 with all latest updates) and Asus S200E (Win 8.1). I have also tried my MBP using a mDP->HDMI adapter. All 3 laptops failed to detect the monitor when source is in Auto Select, monitor says HDMI no signal. All 3 laptops failed to detect the monitor when Auto Select is Off and manually selected input to HDMI. DisplayPort cable was also disconnected for testing, it made no difference. I also have a working Google ChromeCast 2 device that I plugged directly to the U2717D's HDMI port. In all cases, the monitor reported no signal from HDMI cable, nor can the computers detect the monitor.

Eventually, I had the HP working. I remember I had to unplug U2717D from all cables including power. Turn on U2717D, turn on laptop, then plug HDMI cable in. A sigh of relief, I plugged the MBP back to the DP cable and it seems to work. Next day, I tried the Asus. Again, no signal on HDMI, no monitor detected. I unplugged DP, HDMI, power cycled the monitor, manual select HDMI then plug in the Asus and it eventually worked.

I have a Dell XPS13 arriving which I intend to switch the monitor between DisplayPort on the MBP and XPS 13 on HDMI (via a USB type-C to HDMI adapter). However, it is unacceptable if I need to power cycle and unplug cables every time! Is this some kind of know issue or undocumented 'feature'? Or is my U2717D's HDMI port faulty and I should arrange for an exchange?

Before getting it exchanged, contact Dell Technical Support and ask them to send you our HDMI to HDMI cable, part T516N. See if it fits better.

What is the 20 digit serial number and A0x revision? The U2717D HDMI 1.4a supports 2560x1440 60Hz. Do all of those devices when connected and working show the U2717D in their display settings as 2560x1440 60Hz? You might want to consider testing a newer HDMI High Speed cable.

The serial number is CN-0J0XYN-74445-67N-888S and it is Rev A01. The cable is fine, when it worked, I was able to drive 2560 x 1440, albeit at 55Hz when I maxed out the pixel clock on the Asus. The HP was only ever going as high as 2048 x 1080. But this shouldn't matter as default windows behaviour upon new monitor is to duplicate the screen using the same resolution. In my case, 1366 x 768.

I think I've worked out the issue, by accident. It appears the HDMI socket on my U2717D is very sensitive to very very small movement. I raised the screen slightly higher and the picture went. I eventually reached to the back and gently pressed on the cable and it came back again. But I do have to mention I have used 3 different HDMI cables as well as a Google Chrome Cast 2 device (device has its own male HDMI connector). They all had issues. It does not seem to be a cable/device issue, rather the socket on the monitor. Is this something that can be considered as defect?
