U2715H recognized as U2515H in operating system and apps?

Hey,

I just bought a Dell U2715H (yes, really a 27"-Version) and it is identified by the Dell Service tag as a U2715H. But in Windows 10, it is identified U2515H! Even when I try to install the U2715H drivers from the Dell support site, it says that no U2715H was found! It is identified as "DELD06E" which would be a U2515H(DisplayPort). I connected my U2715H also via DisplayPort, but the identification as a U2515H is the same when I use mDP or HDMI.  Could you please clarify? What's wrong with my monitor? I added a photo of the error when trying to install the driver with opened up Onscreen Menu, where you can clearly see that it is IN FACT a U2715H. I can provide you the serial#, express service code or service tag if you wish. Please help!

Regards,

Kai

Below is the U2715H driver for Windows 10. Is that the one you installed? Ignore the references to U3415W and U2515H at the top of that page. Those are just website mistakes.

DELL_U2715H-MONITOR_A00-00_DRVR_FF3XW.exe

Once installed and the computer has been restarted, open the Device Manager- Monitors. Does it list U2715H or U2515H?

Those are the drivers I tried to install. I am getting the exact message as in the picture above.
The drivers are not installing as they do not find a compatibe U2715H. The installer would not let me click next, as my U2715 is identified as "DELD06E".

Here again a screenshot of the full message:

//sorry, dubled the first part.

Addition:
Just tried my Laptop via HDMI, it also recognizes my U2715H as a U2515H. Weired.

Even Hardware-Diagnostic-Tools like AIDA64 read it as a U2515H!

But the Serial-Number displayed here is definitely on my U2715H, on the monitor and on the box!
I even measured the monitor: it definitely IS a 27"

The fact that the monitor OSD (On Screen Display) list U2715H proves that is not a U2515H. Also, the serial number has GH85D in it which is for the U2715H. So this is an operating system, software, or driver issue, not a hardware issue. Was the monitor USB upstream cable connected from the monitor to the computer when you tried to install the driver?

Yes, th USB upstream cable was connected when I tried to install the drivers.>

What I find interesting is the fact that also my Dell D5440 via HDMI identifies it as a U2515H.
When I take a look in the device manager of Windows, select the monitor (whitch says U2515H there), click properties - details and select "Hardware-ID", even there it says "DELD6E" what corresponds to a U2515H. So somehow the monitor sends a wrong hardware-ID so my devices identify it as a U2515H.

Whatsoever, everything is working OK, so I think I might just let it be...

Did you used to have a U2515H monitor, or did you ever install any U2515H drivers?

Regardless, try this: go into Device Manager and remove every entry under "Monitors", then reboot.

No, I never owned or connected a U2515H. Before the U2715H, I owned a Dell 2408WFP.

I tried you other tipp removing all "Monitors" in device manager, after a reboot ist is ahain identified as a U2515H.

Today I had a friend over with his HP x2-12 Detachable, we connected my U2715H via Micro-HDMI and *boom* identified as U2515H as well... :( He does not own any Dell monitor or had one connected before...
I just do not understand.

It sounds like your U2715H may have been flashed with U2515H EDIDs - that's where the device ID and model name are pulled from. The EDID is separate code from the OSD firmware, which would explain why the EDID reports U2515H while the OSD reports U2715H. (There is a different EDID for each input port, but only a single firmware core.)

Try running Monitor Asset Manager over the HDMI (*not* DP) connection and post the textual data. Its the only utility program that includes its own native I2C drivers to read the EDID directly from the monitor, completely bypassing Windows, the registry and the display driver.

Thanks for your info.

I currently have my U2715H connected over HDMI (1), so here is the output: As expected, also identified as a U2515H... :(

Since the resolution is correct (2560x1440 60Hz) and the panel does not have any stuck pixels, I would not exchange it. Your call.

...As expected, also identified as a U2515H... :(

Is there any way to correct that?

None that I'm aware of, but luckily the U2515 and U2715 are identical in all respects except panel size. You should download and install the U2515H monitors drivers, though, to make sure you can install and use the U2x15H color profile since that association depends on EDID model ID.
