S2722QC to Inspiron 3020 connection?

Dell S2722QC

Dell S2722QC

I am confused as to the proper connection between my new S2722QC monitor and my new Inspiron 3020 desktop.

The quick start guide that came with the monitor indicates that the provided USB-C cable is the connection to make between the monitor and to either a laptop or a desktop. I downloaded the monitor's user manual from Dell and it indicates that the USB-C cable only goes to a laptop and a HDMI cable connects to the desktop.

Which is the correct connection?

Hi Chris M.

To summarize, I am to use two cables between the computer and the monitor.  The HDMI goes from the computer to the monitor and a USB Type C/Type A combination cable returns back to the computer.  Is that correct?  If so, I think we're good here.

1911er,

To receive assistance from Dell support, they need to verify the warranty status and ownership. Click the "Get help now" icon on the right to start a live chat session. Provide to them the private Inspiron 3020 Service Tag and S2722QC Service Tag.

Thank you for your reply.  I created a chat session yesterday, 05/09, with a Dell representative named Paul.  He was unable to answer the question.  I simply wanted to know which set of installation instructions were the most correct--the monitor's quick user guide sheet or the monitor's User Manual.  There is an ostensible conflict between the two sources.

The next time I create a chat, I will have both service tag numbers at the ready.

Thank you again for taking the time to respond.

The S2722QC video IN ports (HDMI 1, HMDI 2, USB-C) can be connected either to a Laptop or a Desktop with added video card that has USB-C.

The "S2722QC Monitor Quick Start Guide" only showed USB-C for illustration purposes.

The "S2722QC Monitor User’s Guide" goes into greater detail showing all of the available video IN ports, cables, all other ports, etc. Pages 31-32 show connecting via USB-C or HDMI. Again, the PC shown are simply for illustration.

We can assist in how to connect the two devices, but we need to know if you purchased this

Inspiron 3020 Small Desktop (with only the onboard Intel UHD Graphics 730)

The desktop's video card is a Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050, 8GB GDDR6.

In reviewing the information of my desktop order, it seems as though there is a non-HDMI port that might be available for the monitor. To be clear, the desktop has yet to be delivered.

As a retired person on a modest income, I am leery about plugging What into Where without properly understanding the instructions and maybe creating a situation where something goes poof on what is to me an expensive piece of electronic equipment.

I appreciate your help.

When purchasing a PC and monitor, they are not cross checked for connection. The buyer should compare the sales page specifications to cross check the connections and cables provided.

The S2722QC has multiple video IN ports = HDMI 1, HDMI 2, USB-C
But the manufacturer only provided one video cable = USB-C to USB-C

That video card should have the following video OUT ports HDMI/DP/DP/DP

So you will need to purchase locally a retail HDMI to HDMI cable and a retail USB-C to USB-A cable. Then connect like this =

GeForce RTX 3050 HDMI out port --> retail HDMI to HDMI cable --> S2722QC #3 HDMI 1 IN port

S2722QC #5 USB Type-C upstream port --> retail USB-C to USB-A cable --> computer USB-A port
