P3424WEB, macOS, camera issues

Hello, I have a Dell P3424WEB monitor with an integrated camera connected via USB-C to my Macbook Pro M1 on macOS 14.6 and I keep having issues with the camera. If I disconnect the laptop from the monitor and connect it again, the camera is usually undetected. If I use it on Zoom, the video often freezes and needs to be turned off and on again in the Zoom app.  I have installed the latest firmware for the monitor, Dell Display Manager, but the issue persists. What should I do to fix this? It is very frustrating to have such a cool integrated camera which only works sometimes (typically after restart of my Mac). Also - my colleague reported the same issues on 16" Macbook Pro M2.

Thank you.

To receive assistance from Dell support agents they need to first verify the ownership and warranty status. Click the blue "Get Help Now" on the right to start a private live chat session. Share the private P3424WEB Service Tag with them.

Test the P3424WEB + webcam on a system running Windows OS. Do you have the same issues?

Be sure that the firmware is M2T102 or later in Menu- Others.

I am on the latest firmware. Contacting the support team did not help and It seems I am not the only one having these issues, there are more reported cases even from WinOS.  When can we expect new firmware addressing these issues to be released?

Unknown. Like you, all we can do is periodically check the P3424WEB Drivers & Downloads page to see if new firmware appears.

I can confirm the same issue.

MacBook Pro M2 Pro on macOS 14.5

Dell Dell P3424WEB on M2T102

I have several P3424WEB here to test, and all display this issue I tested so far.

Restore of camera functionality is only archivable with a complete restart of the MacBook.

I don't have any reports from users with Windows machines yet. All running Windows 11 Enterprise.

We are also seeing the same issue on at least 2 of the ones we order but guessing the others are also doing the same thing

Lots of people complaining about this, how will Dell fix the issue, and when?

Customer support is suggesting using two cables, 1 for upstream (USB-C) and 1 for downstream (for the Camera and other integrated features). This goes against the whole point of having the monitor with an integrated camera and power supply connected via a single USB-C. I reject this workaround.

Same issue here. This is such a big disappointment if not addressed, bought this monitor due to the integrated video conferencing functionalities.

I am facing the same challenge as well. I find myself having to reboot my Mac every time this problem occurs, and it has become a daily occurrence. It would be beneficial if Dell could provide a lasting fix for this issue.

I want to add that I tried what customer support suggested - to use two USB-C cables, one for upstream and one for downstream. It is their recommended approach to using the monitor on Mac. It helped for a while, the camera got detected and worked for a while but stopped working on my third call during that day. Since then, the issue has been the same no matter the number of cables connected. The only workaround that helps is a complete restart of the Macbook every time I disconnect the monitor.

At least 6 people complained about the same behavior on different laptops but Dell  Support suggested I contact Apple Support. This is very frustrating.

Same issue: inconsistent video camera on a MacBook Air M2.

Restarting fixes the problem sometimes. This appears to be a SW problem.

What is the ETA for a fix?

I have the same issue - every day the camera stops working and the only way to fix it is to reboot my Mac. Totally useless and embarrassing when on important calls. Dell need to provide a solution asap.

Mic didn’t work today on a call! Not on mute. Unacceptable.

What is the ETA for fix? If that is unknown, I will need to return it.

They also had us try with an Apple Thunderbolt 4 cable but that did not resolve the issue.
