Within a region, it is easier, you provide to the buyer your information (order number, name, address, phone, email) and he provides that to us as proof that you sold him the monitor.
Region to region, almost impossible to do. I am in the Americas, so I can only see Americas data, I cannot see Asia information. Vice versa for them.

Hi Chris, in regards to line 4,
Monitor purchased by you with a PC before 12/12/2005 = 3 year warranty or the longer PC warranty
Where can I find that in writing? I was on the phone with dell rep for over an hour and they kept reading back the current policy to me, even though I argued that the policy used to be different when I purchased my PC.
I purchase a desktop on September 22 2005, with two monitors, one 19 inch and one 2405FPW. The warranty on the PC was 90 days, but according to your post my monitor should still be under warranty and I'd like to have it fixed since I'm having some issues with it.
I couldn't find the papers from when I got the PC so I don't really have any legal document to fight with, can you help?

Chris,
I have a 1707FPc that I purchased new in a sealed factory box as a stand-alone through an eBay auction on 8/5/2007. The label on the back has a Manufactured Date of February 2006. I have no Dell order number nor does there appear to be a 20 digit number on the back of the monitor. I see a space where that number probably would be (just to the left of the large label and below the power connections), but it is empty.
It has worked fine since I bought it, but now the power button appears to be stuck (with the monitor off, of course). Is there any way for me to get this fixed under warranty? (Obviously, if it has a 3 year warranty and was manufactured in February 2006, it is still under warranty even if I don't have the order or PPID numbers.)
If not, is there a service manual available? How much would Dell charge to repair it? I'd hate to think that it just becomes a $140 paperweight after only 8 months of use.
Thanks,
Mark

Tell them to ask me. They should be able to find you in the system if you can provide any of these -
order number
customer number
phone number at the time of purchase
mfreemany2k,
No. Without an order number, we cannot do anything. We do not service monitors, we exchange them. We do not have disassembly instructions.
valerian,
Within the first 21 days from the invoice date, a replacement will be New.

Chris,
If Dell does not service monitors but only exchanges them, how do I exchange one that is out of warranty? What is the cost?

So Dell has no process for repairing or exchanging an out of warranty monitor of a current production model? And Dell will not sell parts or service manuals for them either?
Am I expected to just buy a new one?

There are a lot of third party repair shops that will fix a monitor, it's out of warranty so it really doesn't matter who works on it. The sad fact is that a lot of time, especially on the smaller LCD's, it's cheaper to buy a new one then to get it fixed.

Hi Chris,
Thank you for the explanation about Dell warranties on monitors. I just bought 3 22" Dell LCD from Bestbuy and the salesperson (who is suppose to be a small business specialist) told me that there is NO warranty whatsoever from Dell on purchases for business/commercial use. I have not been able to find any details on the Dell website distinguishing the difference in warranty coverage between average consumer use and commercial use (business office). Can you verify this? We had a to buy a $200 5-year Bestbuy warranty to assure us that if anything is wrong with the monitor that Bestbuy would replace/fix it or else we would lose the cost of three monitors right away if anything was wrong with them.
Thanks

We have warranties on all monitors purchased from Dell regardless of what the customer uses it for. The problem would be that you didn't buy it from Dell, I'm not sure what if any warranty items from Best Buy carry. In the past most items sold to a reseller or broker had no Dell warranty support because the reseller handled it but with us going into retail there are different agreements with each company. Best Buy is a new outlet for us and I have heard conflicting things about what our responsibility vs Best Buys when it comes to the warranty. I am trying to find someone who can tell me "this is the way it is" and I'll pass it on to you.

Thanks Jimmy. I appreciate the quick response. I was on the phone with Dell customer support for 40 minutes and transferred from dept to dept and no one could give me an answer.
