Hey ED1962,
If you are a serious gamer and desktop space is not an issue, than I would go with a CRT monitor. Until recently I have been using a CRT for many years and most of my time is done playing games. I just got a new Dell system, ordered it in early December, and one of the upgrades was a free flat panel. I was excited as it was going to be my first LCD display. It was the Dell Ultrasharp 1905FP. I thought this was going to be an excellent monitor, until I started looking through these Dell Forums. When my computer arrived I set it up and was amazed at the quality of the picture. Then I decided to install and play the three games I received as gifts: Farcry, Doom 3, and Half Life 2. The ghosting on the 1905FP was horrible! I also noticed some ghosting while playing DVDs and watching TV, as I got a computer with Media Center. I got a replacement monitor from Dell and it was even worse than the first. So I did some more digging through the forums and found that people were, overall, pleased with the 2001FP. Since it has a faster response time, 16ms as compared to the 20ms on the 1905FP, I hope to not experience the same problems. Like I said, desktop space is an issue with me and the initial picture quality of the LCD was amazing so I am going to try the 2001FP. I should receive the monitor this week so I will let you know if it works out alright. If it doesn't than I am going to return it, and buy a bigger desk that can house a 20+ inch CRT. Be warned though, the 1905FP is a horrible monitor so definitely stay away from that one. The Tech. Support at Dell has even confirmed that they are flawed. I have gathered that a CRT is, as of now, the best for gamers, until they get the response times down on the LCDs.
