blue screen after adding second monitor

I recently added a second monitor to my Dell desktop and have been getting bluescreens with system crash once or twice a day since then.

The bluescreen message:

Attempt to reset display driver and recover from timeout failed.

  STOP: 0x00000116 (0x..., 0x..., 0x0, 0x0...0D)

  atikmdag.sys, addr (varies) Datestamp 47FD88A6

It's also been timing out several other times a day (both screens flash black) but recovering.

My configuration:

  • My desktop: Dell XPS 430-121B
  • Video Card: ATI Radeon HD 3650
  • Monitor 1 (I've been using with no problem): Intergraph 21sd100 CRT at 1280x1024 and 32-bit color, connected to DVI output on video card
  • Monitor 2 (the new one I just added): Dell 2408WFP Ultrasharp LCD at 1920x1280 and 32-bit color, connected to DisplayPort output on video card

I just updated ATI Catalyst to see if that will help.  That was about an hour ago,  Prior to that I was using the version of Catalyst that came with the system.

Any ideas?  Thanks.

The ATI Catalyst upgrade seems to have fixed it.  No bluescreens at all since then, whereas before it was several per day.

Set the Monitor 1 to the DisplayPort 2408WFP. Set the other to Monitor 2. Test it.

Thanks - I did test it, and it seems to be working perfectly now.
