AW2724DM, red / pink hue?

I recently purchased a Alienware 2724DM gaming monitor.

I noticed the screen seems to have a slight red / pink tint to it. I thought I was imagining it and fired it up next to my Dell SE2732DS productivity screen and it's does seem to have a pink tint. I was running in standard mode, factory settings.

Has anyone else noticed this? Or do I have a faulty unit?

Try using sRGB mode (PRESET) mode, as the other modes are apparently less accurate and over saturated.

Also try adjusting RGB Gain and Gamma to Gain (99,100,97), Offset (50,50,51).

Review

Keep in mind the only proper way to calibrating a display and measuring any issues with color reproduction is using a hardware calibrator. 

Since you have a second monitor you can visually try to set it up, and there are various test patterns on Youtube that can help assist you with color balance, white point, black point etc...

Does your PC (XPS 8960) have an add-in video card (which one?) or only onboard Intel Graphics?  Assuming you have an add-in video card, is the monitor connected to the card, not to the onboard Graphics?

What video port are you using on PC and what port on monitor?  Have you tried a different port on (add-in) video card and monitor? Any port adapters being used?

Have you run the monitor's Diagnostics to see if it has the same color distortion there too?

Thanks for the reply,

It's connected to the RTX4080 via DP. I've tried connecting it to different ports on the card and monitor and nothing changed. I changed the cable, also no change.

No adaptors are being used. The monitor and pc are both new and less than 2 weeks old. I tried the diagnostic and on the plain white screen, the pink tint is visible there. I sent in pictures to the support folks as requested on Friday and am yet to hear back.

Thanks for the suggestions,

I'm using sRGB mode with the adjustments you suggested and the tint is reduced but still visible. The only way to seemingly get rid is to use SPORT mode but then everything else is massively oversaturated.

I have 3 dell monitors in my office and the AW is the only one with the red tint. I ran various test cards and patterns, plain colour screens etc all side by side. One of my screens was more "cool" in hue, and the AW screen is almost like it has "warm" mode permanently switched on.

I had a reply from support, they stated that the monitor is "working as intended". I don't think it should have a red/pink hue and the diagnostic picture that I provided shows this clearly, it's also the only one of 4 dell monitors that I have that exhibits this. 

I've requested an exchange as it's within 14 days of delivery.

I just want to add that Support have been very poor during this process. I've spent close to a couple of hours on the phone and for some reason they keep trying to push a refund instead of an exchange. Right now I'm still arguing with them on the phone for a simple product exchange and not a refund.

Honestly, it makes me wonder why they have such low confidence in their product or whether all of these units have a red tint and it's a known issue.

Baffling.

You can also try and download the ICC profile from that review side. It will not be a perfect match as each monitor is slightly different, but it will be in the general ballpark.

@Muddyfunster   - Don't know if this applies to your situation, but I recently/suddenly started having a pink tint on my (non-Dell) monitor connected via DP either to an NVidia video card or to onboard Intel DP port in my XPS 8930. The monitor is a few years old, so my first suspicion was a failure.

Found a solution, but don't know why it works or what has changed. If I turn monitor on first and wait for it to say "No DP signal", and only then power the PC on, things are totally normal.

If I power them both on at same time, as I always did in the past, the screen has pink tint, even in BIOS setup.

Easy to try, and -hopefully- works for you too...

@RoHe I gave it a try but no change. Thanks for the suggestion though :)

I checked to make sure the correct ICC profile was being applied. 

I've found that using custom colour and making some more adjustments (per @Vanadiel) I can get things to a level where they don't look like they've had a pink wash applied. Also in Colour Space, I've found the pink hue only really affects sRGB.  DCI-P3 actually looks good without any other adjustments, but I don't know if using that instead of sRGB for games limits me in anyway. 

I just find it really odd how sRGB has the pink hue.

For day-to-day use it's "ok" now

@Muddyfunster​ DCI-P3 is a wider gamut than sRGB. If anything it will enhance the way games look.

I got things to a point where I'm happy with the screen, more or less using the adjustments and profiles.

Dell however had other ideas and sent me a replacement screen. I don't even recall asking for a replacement.

The replacement is actually terrible, double the amount of light bleed under the same environmental conditions. I asked them to take the replacement back as it's visibly worse and they said that they cannot.

Nope, can't cancel the return aparantly. Well they need to find a way as I'm happy with my original now and I don't need the (worse) replacement.

Nope, can't do that. 

Find a way Dell. 

/sigh.
