1707FPc monitor problem with image (vsync?)

Hi there,

I've had this monitor for more than a year. A few months ago i had to repair the power button by myself due to poor design and now i can't even see anything on my monitor anymore. I've never abused it or used chemicals to clean it or whatever.

I've actually had that image problem for a while now, but only while booting up (DOS like screen) or sometimes while in fullscreen when playing games. But today, it started having that massive image distortion problem in windows as well. Looks like something is horribly wrong with the v-sync. Like there's a problem with the resolution or refresh rate. I tried both analog and digital modes with no difference. But i use the recommended resolution like i've always had. I tried changing the refresh rate and resolution to several other values using my old CRT monitor in between and no success.

As of now, I haven't had that many good experiences with Dell products and if I can't figure this out, I will never buy Dell again.

I hope to fix this so i can still use this monitor a few more years before spending another $200+ for another monitor. A monitor should last more than 1 year. This is ridiculous.

Here are some pictures to explain my problems.

You need to contact tech support about a replacement. You need to have at hand your order number for a stand along purchase. Most of these monitors have a three year warranty.  If you brought this monitor with a system your service tag.  Your monitor warranty is the same as the computer.

Dell will also ask for the serial number on the back of the monitor.

I understand why you are upset. I am now using my third 2407.  I had a banding problem with one, and a switch problem with another. I brought the first on 13 months ago.

zallow,

Does the issue appear in safemode? Yes or No
* Click Start- Turn Off Computer- Restart
* At the blue Dell, tap F8 to bring up the Windows boot menu
* Scroll to and select Safe Mode, press the Enter key
* Select the first or only operating system, press the Enter key

Does the issue appear during the Self-Test Feature Check (STFC)? Yes or No
* Turn off the monitor
* Plug the monitor power cord directly into the wall socket to remove any surge protectors or APCs from the troubleshooting equation
* Unplug the monitor video cable from the back of the computer
* Turn on the monitor
* The floating red/green/blue/white dialog box should appear on screen against a black background

Did you try another cable? Does it do it on another computer? Are you digital or analog? Big question is did this start after the power button repair?

Chris M,

The issue still appears during safe mode, i forgot to mention it in my first thread cause i tried it before posting. It doesn't appear during self test mode tho.

I tried it on 3 other computers with different graphics setups and still no difference. Even my room mate's computer running Linux. Every different computers ended up with the same results.

tr4, you obviously didn't read my post thoroughly. I tried with both digital and analog cables on both modes, no difference. And the problem was there before that "power button repair". But only while booting and sometimes in fullscreen in games like i was saying before. That repair was done many months ago.

So on another note, i'm trying to enter my service tag in the technical support section of the website and it tells me it's not recognized. So i can't even verify my warranty status or anything else.

There's this bar code tag at the lower left side behind the monitor which i'm pretty is it.

There's this long part number: CN-0CC352-64180-64I-27AL
And a smaller one underneath: REV A00 (this one is the service tag right?)

Yeah no worries man. Sorry if i seem a lil jumpy, haven't had a really good weekend. The monitor wasn't the only thing that failed on me yesterday, but that's another story.

Anyway, back on topic. Anybody got anymore ideas or solution? What about that service tag?

zallow,

If you only have an Order number associated with the monitor, you must call in, 1-800-624-9896. They will need the following information -
20 digit PPID number on back of monitor
Name, address, phone, email address
Order number
Issue
Troubleshooting done
