Latitude 5520, keyboard keys chipping paint

I got a new Latitude 5520 in august 2021.

In september the paint of the keyboard keys (black paint on a white key) started to chip off.
Now by the end of october the situation is as follows:

I am using keyboards for more than 30 years, and this never happened to me though most portables I used for at least 3 years.  My nails are short as always and I type with all my fingers, not with the nails.  This is the last thing I would expect and certainly not for a Dell computer.  Does someone have the same experience ?  Our contact at Dell considers this as harmful use, not as paint that is not fixed well.  Did someone have a better experience with the services of the Dell organization ?

This forum thread would be worth a look. It just confirms that it's not only you and not only Dell.

Having the exact same issue with a Latitude 7410 from late 2020, never had this issue on previous laptops.

I am having the same issue with mine. Is it a defect covered under warranty?

I'm having the same issue with my Dell Latitude 7310. It's only the C and V at the moment, but it sure looks terrible. I've been selling and servicing Dell laptops for 22+ years and haven't seen this type of problem.

Same issue here too.

I have the same issue on one keyboard, logged a call with Dell Latitude 5320

Only ever seen this once where one user had got gel nails but this user said she doesn't use anything like this.  There was a brown smudge on the FN key with little dots of missing key surface coating  (can be seen on the photo)laptop keys.jpg which when wiped off peeled the key off also which has me thinking some substance has gotten onto the keyboard and caused this.

I work for the gov in a country. Sadly they bought >10k of dell Latitute 5420-5430 and I can safely say the RMA repair rate has been very high. Anything can fail from docking to display to motherboard and keys coming up.

Paint fading from keys I've seen more than 100 and the chrome body paint scraped off (revealing black plastic) has been super common.

I really don't know what's with the quality and qc of Dell nowadays. It's autrocious

I wish I'd seen this thread when I leased my Dell 5520 and 5320 laptops in 2021. Both of my have the same peeling problem. I've used Dells for 30 years also, so this is strange. I reached out to Dell and was told that the keyboard damage is a $50 charge when the laptop is returned. I'm challenging them on this because this is a known design flaw.
