Cannot display laptop screen on TV using HDMI
Hi. My Dell laptop e7440 screen went black. But power, capslock and battery light goes on everytime I switch it on. I have tried several combination keys to troubleshoot such as Windows+B, Shift+F8, F11 and F8 however there's still no any signs of life in the screen.
Im trying now to connect it in the TV through HDMI cable, but there is no display. I pressed Windows + P, still no display. This is my firstime to connect it on externals. I wonder if it still needs to be unlocked by users. (meaning I still need to unlock my laptop before windows + p works) or is there any more command keys to press so it will directly display.
Thank you in advance. It will be such a great help.

TVs are not monitors. Make sure TV is on and the correct input (HDMI) is selected using the tv remote. No converter cable connections. If you did that, the video might have failed.
That model is 7 years old now. Consider replacing it with a new one.

Press and hold D key when booting to troubleshoot.
As for HDMI to TV, as MaryG wrote, make sure you are selecting the right input on your TV. My TV has three (3) HDMI inputs to choose from.

Hi thank you for responding. I followed the article you have politely shared and I have tried press and hold D upon switching. The test ran, I see no lines nor scratches on the colors. What am I supposed to do now.
As for HDMI, the TV has this feature on which HDMI port is in use so Im sure now Im on the correct line.
Im not sure now what other ways can my laptop screen be projected on the TV despite pressing windows + P. I really got limited resources since I'm on quarantine, and I only got a Tv, an HDMI cable, and my laptop.
Thank you guys!

If you are not seeing anything on the laptop LCD screen then it means your LCD screen is broken. You must press D key and keep pressing it to run the built-in test. Press ESC key to exit.
I have a E6230 and to project to TV, it is Fn + F8 keys. It is the same key combination on the E7440.
Otherwise, I don't know what to suggest.
