Having the exact same problem. Please help us! Perhaps a member of the DELL support team?

I have a Dell XPS L502X using windows 7, and it has two display adapters listed - an intel one and a NVIDIA GeForce 525M. I understood that the system would choose which driver to use in order to save power but it never uses the NVIDIA driver, even when I set that as the global default in desktop, and also to specify which processor a particular programme should use.

Different laptop but the exact same problem as yourselves. Can someone help?

Same issue here. I've heard mentioned on a forum that it might switch automatically as needed. Can anyone confirm? And if so, any way to force it to use the Nvidia? I don't want the intel graphics active at all!

I spent a few hours with Dell phone support today and he could not get the NVIDIA card to kick in at all even when all the settings were set to default to that. Unfortunately he said the card was fine I just wasn't running anything which needed the NVIDIA but my point is I SHOULD be able to set what I want to use and if I can't then the laptop is faulty.

Trying a CD game tomorrow to see if that will run with NVIDIA

You have to set the programs .exe executable file that you want the 555 chip to use(in the nvidia control panel.Click the Manage 3D settings tab left-now click program settings tab and uncheck "show only programs found on this computer"click apply). Then click the drop down box and select the .exe executable file for that program and select apply.Do this under the global settings tab also and click apply and you are set.The nvidia chip will run with that program from now on.Switchable graphics is the hardest thing i have ever tried to figure out,but it is supposed to automatically switch to the nvidia chip for graphic intense programs, but most of the time it does not.As long as you set the .exe you will be fine.

No need to worry guyz. I have XPS17-L702X with nvidia GT555M like you and play every game with max settings.

"dgkpcon" explained it well but you can also watch this.

Its for alienware but still the same graphic card settings.  I ' m using the graphics like the video above, and have no problem.

if you say "optimus is useless, i dont wants long battery life i want quality with nvidia" do it like the video.

if you need battery life,  do the opposite. hope it helps.

Unfortunately, I believe there is some confusion on how the video works on the Dell XPS L702X.  The Intel HD video card drives the laptop display and the Nvidia GT 555M video card drives an EXTERNAL monitor connected via the HDMI 1.4a port on the laptop.  I first tried a Samsung 3D LED LCD display, but found that the Samsung 3D is NOT COMPATIBLE with the Nvidia 3D.  I now have a ViewSonic V3D245 LED LCD monitor with built in speakers.  You use the Nvidia Control Panel to enable the 3D display and disable the laptop display and finally to enable 3D on the external display.
