XPS 15z AC Power Cord not recognized
Hi folks,
I have a Dell XPS 15z.
It is plugged into the wall socket, the green light on the power pack is lit, however the BIOS says the AC Adapter is 'none' - i.e. it doesn't recognize it.
The battery is slowly discharging even though I am plugged in - it says I have 2,884 hours left (68%). When I first noticed it, was at 2,939 (69%).
I have removed the battery and the laptop works fine on AC Power only, however the BIOS still says there is no AC Adapter.
'Turn off battery charging' in the battery options is unchecked.
Any help would be appreciated. It was working fine yesterday, woke up this morning and I noticed this problem.
Thanks

First thing to try is a new Dell AC adapter -- if that doesn't solve the problem, you will need a replacement power jack or a replacement mainboard.

Also, in response to Terry's fixed post, I've also done the following:
1. Removed battery etc., as shown above
2. Can't update BIOS (currently A02) as AC Adapter not recognized
3. AC Adapter errors are enabled
4. The light on the laptop hinge that shows it is charging is not being lit
5. Cables seem to be in good condition, no bent pin etc., it fits in ok.

New adapter...hmm, don't know anyone else who has one...will have to ask around I guess.

Ok, tried a new adapter from a friend's XPS 15z...still not being recognized. Does this mean I need to replace the motherboard?

I was able to simply move the power cord in the back of my laptop the adapter went from -none or charger not recognised to 230w and the battery started to charge it might take a min but as soon as the comp recognises the adapter problem solved . no new battery and no new mother board

F2 at start up , battery info , move power cord in and out until 230w appears next to adapter = instead of none or adapter not recognized your battery will start to charge as soon as the adapter is recognized .

Hmm, ok tried that for 20 minutes with no luck...sigh, guess I will have to have it looked at. It's out of warranty though - how much would a new motherboard cost? Would it be possible for me to get a new extended warranty and then have it looked at under that? I think it will cost about $200 for the new warranty from the Dell Aus site.

Hi. Don't know if you're still having problems but I was having some issues myself this morning and found this thread while searching.
Had mine plugged into a surge protector, but it wasn't registering. Unplugged it and put it into a wall outlet. Still no luck. Then I ran the Dell Support Center application and suddenly my laptop started recognizing the AC power. LOL
I've had this for a little over a year now and there have been times where it would give me an alert that it wasn't recognizing the AC power source.
