Warning: the ac adapter type cannot be determined

Hi,

when i wanted to start my Studio1558-Laptop this morning, my laptop uttered a sound and told me that the ac adapter type cannot be determined and that my system won't operate at maximum performance.

As I've read so far in another forum, this might be the motherboard having a slight defect. My laptop never fell down, took a swim or has been damaged in whatever way... So my question is: How could this happen? It is certainly not my fault.

What am I supposed to do now? Call Dell customer support? My laptop has been bought in October '11 - is the warranty still valid? By the way, I'm from Germany.. I don't know if that makes any difference but im looking forward to a positive reply :)

Thanks.

Hi Sunliner93,

Welcome to the Community. It could be an issue with the motherboard.

Since you bought this system in October '11,by default you get 1 year of hardware warranty with the system.

I suggest you can call your regional technical support for further help.

Thank You

Roshan.

Thanks for the answer.

... Unfortunately I just realized I meant October'10.

I know Dell usually provides 1year of warranty, but somone told me his Dell-laptop got repaired although it was ~18months old. That's why I was asking about the warranty situation Dell provides in Germany-

In Germany technical or electronical stuff normally got 2 years of warranty, as far as I know.

Hi Sunliner93,

Using your system service tag number, you can check your warranty status online on out support website.

You can visit www.support.dell.com.On the right hand top under warranty information, you can click on warranty status and use system service tag.

Thank You

Roshan.

Despite what some people maintain there is an on-going problem with Dell power supplies going back to 2009. I have a Dell Studio 1555 with the 9-cell battery requiring a 90-watt power supply. I believe the problem is not the motherboard it is rather the connection between the power supply and the laptop. If you look at the PC sitting on your lap the connect comes directly out and is subject to stresses from being plugged in and out. It should be a 90 degree connector because the signal wire that tells the PC you've got a 90-watt supply is apparently VERY fragile. I have gone through six (!) power supplies, half Dell and half non-Dells and this afternoon the dreaded message appeared again.

The internet is full of reports of this same problem. I wonder if someone sells a 90-degree coonector to put on the cable?
