Upgrade of XPS 14z with SSD

Hello Dell People,

I might have made a mistake getting my 14z with a traditional hard-disk drive (750 GB) so I am thinking now of buying an SSD storage.

Are there any special limitations that I should consider? Or is it just a normal 2.5" SATA II SSD? What about connectors? Do I need to get some stuff from Dell?

I don't want to buy SSD from Dell because their prices are far away from being nice. I got plenty of shops where I can buy SSD much cheaper only I have to know what I have to buy.

Regards
TM

From what I know, 14z should already have SATA III interface not II. Moreover, if it comes with HDD then it must be 2.5" in size. This means you can replace it with 2.5" traditional SSD.

But remember, If your BIOS version is not A00, then your system uses only SATA II interface. I think 14z is also one of the laptops affected by Intel Couger point bug. But Dell hides the fact since the replacement is costly and in the next BIOS updates, they disabled SATA III interface.

I came to know this only when I replace HDD with Samsung SSD 850 EVO and when I found that the SSD is not working to its full potential, I checked the SATA interface and found that SSD is connected to SATA II instead of SATA III interface. When I researched, I came to know from the chipset in 14Z is the one affected by the bug.

Dell hides the fact from its loyal customers and from now on, I won't trust this company. I thought of buying Alienware 13, but after this situation, I don't trust them.

If you people are willing we could complain it to Dell higher authorities and If we don't get a valid reason, then we could file a complaint against Dell.
