Can someone tell me the difference between a PA-1 and a PA-6 adapter. Thanks.

- seriously though, the PA-6 adapters provide up to 70 watts (3.5 amps) at a fixed 20 volts, and the PA-1 is rated up to 70 watts (3.8 amps) at a fixed 18.5 volts. This link may provide some information regarding compatibility.

Hi,

I am moving from Canada to Australia and the input voltage is going to be different.  I have a PA-6 adapter for my Dell Latitude CPx laptop.  Is there anything that I need to do to switch from the 110V to the 220V?  I have read that the computer can be used for both, just not sure if all I do is plug in or need to switch something (internal or external)

G'day,

Your adapter should mention on the underside that the input voltage is 110-220, or 240V AC.

Australia & NewZealand  use 240VAC.

They also use a plug with 3 flat pins  \ /

Adapters are available to accept your plug & mount into an Australian socket.

Alternately, if your AC cord plugs into your adapter, it is possible to buy a new appropriate cord to do this from almost any appliance store.  This is definitely tidier, safer & possibly cheaper.
