Partnership with HP IPAQ pocket pc

I have just recently bought a Pocket PC but I can not for teh life of me get it to work with my PC. I thought I did something wrong but I loaded the software on another computer and it works. Is there something wrong with micorsoft activesync that does not work on DELL. I am not real computer smart so if you can help please let me know. Thanks Will

Hey Army Guy

I have a HP iPaq and it is sync with a Dell.  I'm not the smartest in the world about computers either but try uninstalling the software and reinstalling it.  Are you trying to sync with Outlook or Outlook Express?

I have outlook on my computer. The problem is that the active sync is all gray except make a connection and connection settings. It doesn't see my pocket PC. The computer knows its there and I can use it on other computers just not mine. I am running XP service Pack2. I have unistalled the program about 12 times and reinstalled from the disk and from the microsoft web site but no luck. If outlook has something to do with it can you tell me how to set it up please.

Thank you, Will

Okay Let's see if this works

Check the name you have given your device.  I never use the default.  I always add a name to the default name.

Do you have administrative rights under the profile you are trying to sync with?  You will need those rights.

Before you go through the wizard have Outlook running, I don't know if this makes a difference but it always works for me.

When you go through the wizard don't chose the guess profile, use the other one.  I it should find your new pda name.  Once it has finished see if you can set your options on the desktop computer.

where do you add the profile name on the computer or PDA? I have tried on the PDA but it will not let me. Should I have outlook open on the PDA or the computer when I am trying to connect the two?

Have Outlook open on the desktop computer.

Device Name is located undert Start, Settings, System Tab, About and the Device ID tab.  I usually have name_ Pocket_PC

Let me know if this works for you.
