Memory Upgrade on Inspiron E1505
I recently upgraded my Inspiron E1505 to 4Gb(2-2gb sticks) and it only recognizes 2 Gb total installed. Do I need a Bios upgrade for it?

2GB is the max you can install on this model. Return the 2gb chips and get 2 1gb chips instead. See this Crucial site.

I think your sticks are mislabelled. You should write to where you purchased them. Crucial will detect the installed memory correctly even if your system can't use it all..
Your system has pretty much identical specifications to mine, so you know it can take 3.24 Gb.

As you can see the crucial scanner says you can put a maximum of 1 Gb in each slot but in my case detects 2 Gb in each slot.
Dell Support Centre says the maximum supported RAM is 4.0 Gb.
Windows 7 detects 4 Gb of RAM and can use 3.24 Gb of it.
Therefore run the crucial scan to check that it is detected the 2×2 Gb modules and not just one of them which eliminates one module not being seated correctly.
Secondly change the boot settings:
Press the windows key and r (at the same time) then type msconfig in the run box. Go to the boot tab, then advanced options. Uncheck, the number of processors and maximum memory, reboot see if you can use more memory.

Note you should be able to access 3.24 Gb of RAM not 2.0 Gb as stated.
I am on BIOs revision A17 and I get 3.24 Gb out of the 4.0 Gb I put in.
What OS are you using and what CPU do you have?

You should be able to access 3.24 Gb of RAM, like mine. Did you change the settings in MSCONFIG and run the crucial scan. What does Dell Support Centre and system information say.
What does the BIOs setup say F2 at start say?

No problem. As an aside for windows 7 32 bit.
I installed the following drivers
1. Dell Notebook Software: R143625
2. Chipset: Intel: R140623; Ricoh: R141246
3. ICS_Ds32 (Intel WiFi card)
4. Touchpad: R141200
5. Dell Quickset: R166699
6. Bluetooth: R226750, for Dell Wireless 270 Bluetooth module but works with the 255 and 250. Had a great number of problems with bluetooth using the Vista drivers.

Lies. I own an insprion E1505, changed the processor to a T7200, and installed 4gb of ddr 667 memory. I also use a 64 bit operating system. Max amount of memory shown is 3.3 gb. If he/she's using a 32 bit os, then 2gb might be max amount usable.

MR_BLEU it is not "lies". I have already provided a screenshot of My computer>properties. You can clearly see (a) it is 32 bit, (b) it has 4.00 Gb of RAM installed, (c) 3.24 Gb is usable, (d) this has a T2130 CPU and cannot go 64 bit anyway.
It is just pointless to install a 64 bit OS as there is practically no benefit and better drivers for the 32 bit. You get 3.3 Gb of RAM opposed to 3.24 Gb, practically no difference. Depending what processor you upgraded from it was probably a waste of time and money. However may be cheaper now than when I last looked for a T7600.
32 bit maximum memory is approximately (2^32) b which is within the 3.25 Gb range. Chipset limits the 64 bit OS from utilising more but has no limit for the 32 bit which is already limited at that level.
