Latitude D610: Unkown AC Adapter (65W)

Out of the great blue the Laptop has stated its AC Adapter is unknown and
fails to charge the battery.

But the laptop does not complain about the docking station, works fine with it
and the battery charges.

So I recieve the famouse "AC Adapter Unknown" every boot, while it is easy to
dismiss this error message, the laptop prevents the AC adapter from charging
the battery.

I reviewed the Dell FAQS (bent pins, etc) no bent pins (brand new adapter).

I have tested the laptop with another AC adapter (same part number) and the Laptop fails to reconize as well.

Any idea what happend (common hardwar bug, etc) and how to correct it.

You may also notice that the CPU is limited to 30% speed with unidentified PS.:(

Common test that you have done is to try a different adapter, problem remains,
so it is in the MotherBoard.

Since you should still have warranty, best to call Dell, they will likely
replace MotherBoard.

It is likely that there is a broken connection of the 'third wire' past your
socket on MB, if it is in the form of a crack of the MB, it is 'toast'.

This damage can easily occur from a simple 'trip on the cord' causing stress
on the socket that is part of the MotherBoard.

I'm curious to the exact message your getting. Is it saying:

The Adapter Type Cannot Be Determined, This Will Prevent Optimal System Performance?

If so, I would say that you got your power adapters mixed up & are using a PA-10 on the laptop when you should be using a PA-12. The PA-10 is the larger brother meant for the docking stations.

If this is not the message you are getting, then nevermind and have a good day.

Thanks,
Thom
